It has long been known that the extreme NE section of Washington Co. VA was deficient for the 1870c. The present information is from a tax and work book which was presented to Mr. Troy Taylor through the courtesy of Ms. Shelia S. Hunt; it is excellent proof of the degree of the deficiency in the 1870c.

* Denotes not found in 1870c, Saltville Dist. in a quick check of this census. One can easily see that only a tiny minority of persons from the extreme NE section of Washington Co. VA were captured in the 1870c.
