Thomas Goodson’s Will

In the Name of God Amen
I Thomas Goodson of the County of Montgomery & Commonwealth of Virginia being in perfect health of body & of sound disposing body mind memory & understanding, thanks be to God, do make this my last will & testament:
In the the manner and form following VIZ First of all I give and bequeath unto my beloved Wife Sarah Goodson, the Plantation on which I now live, and bounded as followeth VIZ Beginning at my Corner on the top of Bocks Ridg, thence to the head of the Middle branch and with the same as it Meanders to XXXXXX to intersect with Hartsocks line and that part of the land lying South of the Middle branch known by the name of the Meadow branch tract, to be disposed of as will follow hereafter; I also desire that there be given to My Wife Sarah Goodson. One third of all and every of my personal Estate, together with Said land fully XXXXX, fully and freely to be possessed by the Said Sarah Goodson during her Widdowhood or until her decease. then the land and all personal estate belonging to the said Sarah Goodson at such decease to be equally XXXXXXXX divided among the children of William and Margaret Shelor my daughter
I also give and bequeath the Meadow branch tract of land above alluded to and the other two thirds of my personal Estate, to be sold and equally divided among all my children Except Joseph Goodson who hath obtained his part already except five Shillings Sterling which I hereby ordain and request Shall be given him.
Then first of all I give Unto my Son Thomas Goodson his proportion of the proceeds of the Said two thirds of my personal Estate, and proportion of the proceeds of the Meadow branch tract of land., Unto My Son William Goodson his proportion of both, Unto my Daughter Nancy Eason her proportion of both Unto my Son John Goodson his proportion of both. Unto the children of My Son-in-law James King, which he had by my daughter Sarah, their proportion of both, Say one ninth.. as this dividend is among Nine of my children, the other having been provided for, Unto my daughter Mary Poge her proportion of both. Unto my daughter Martha McHenry her proportion of both. Unto my daughter Jane Reavely her proportion of both.
And to my Daughter Rhody English her proportion of both. I also give and bequeath , my beloved Wife Sarah Goodson My family Bible to be disposed of at her decease as She may think proper. And unto my daughter Margaret Shelor the first Volume of Davis’s Sermons. Lastly I constitute My Son Thomas Goodson and My Son in law William Shelor Joint Exeutors of this My last will and testament. In witness I have hereunto Set my hand and affixed my Seal this 14th Day of November. In the year of our lord 1811.
