dunhamsyard.jpg648 viewsTHESE WERE MYRL DUNHAM'S CARS. THE BIG TREE IN THE BACK YARD WAS AN ENGLISH WALNUT. IT WAS PLANTED BY THE FAMILY THAT CAME TO SALTVILLE FROM ENGLAND WHEN THE MATHIESONS STARTED THE PLANT. THEY LIVED THERE FOR A FEW YEARS AND THEN RETURNED TO ENGLAND. THEIR NAME WAS BARNES.

IN 1902, M. S. DUNHAM CAME TO SALTVILLE FROM TITUSVILLE, PA. TO TAKE OVER THE WELL DRILLING OPERATIONS. HE LIVED IN THIS HOUSE AND ALSO SERVED AS MAYOR FOR A WHILE. HIS SON, HARRY, ALSO LIVED HERE. THE HOUSE IS NOW OWNED BY HARRY AND REBA DUNHAM'S DAUGHTER, MARY.

THE WALNUT TREE DIED SEVERAL YEARS AGO. THE PICTURE IS FROM APRIL OF 1957. Courtesy of Don Smith dsmith1043@comcast.net

EastMainandEasyStreets4.jpg850 viewsHere Is a Picture I Have Had since the Late 60's. It Was Given to Me by My Neighbor on E. Main Street. Benita and I Were Living in the Little Apartment We Built at 600 E. Main. Our Neighbor, Miss Lula Shannon, Came over One Day and Gave Me the Pictures. She Knew I Liked Old Pictures. I Had Grown up Beside the Shannons next Door at What Is Now 602 E. Main. The Shannons, Lula and Her Brother C. Douglas, Were Never Married. She Was a School Teacher...I Had Her in the Fourth Grade...And He Worked in the Office at Olin.
Doug Passed Away in 1970 at the Age of 79. Miss Lula Was Born Aug. 20, 1889 and Passed Away on Jan. 5, 1971 at the Age of 81. They Are Buried in the Elizabeth Cemetery.
