Heltonjitney.jpg
Helton Jitney826 viewsThis one was in my aunt Lola Kilby Sewell's photo album. She moved to Harford County, MD, with her family (Roby and Eva Kilby family) in 1915 but returned to the mountains in the early 1920s to get her teaching degree from Boone. This photo caught my eye because this apparently was a mode of public transportation, presumably from Helton to Boone. I don't know that there was a "bus" from Harford County to Helton at that point. Later there was bus service from Bel Air to Sparta, I believe. She must have taken the train from Harford County to Boone. If you have any knowledge of this jitney, I'd like to know the facts. That's could be Aunt Lola on the left but I'm not positive. Courtesy of Emily Kilby erk44@verizon.net

HeltonSchool(ca1915-20).jpg773 viewsMy great-grandfather Wade Jones Sr. is one of the teachers in this photo. He is on left with little black bowtie near edge of window. I don;t know when the picture was taken but from looking at him I would suggest 1915-20, maybe up to 1925. I don;t know any of the others. Courtesy of Danny Miller millerd@fuse.net
heltonss.jpg
heltonss.jpg757 viewsThis is a Sunday school photo, probably taken around 1915 if the woman sitting top center with her arm draped over the shoulder of a big-eared son is, indeed, Ada Littlewood Francis (oldest son had stick-out ears). The picture was taken on the front steps of Herbert and Hannah Littlewood's home on Helton Creek. Courtesy of Emily Kilby.
