1946

ALEX B. MILLER IDLEWILD, N. C.

Alex B. Miller was born Dcc. 19, 1859, died Feb, 18, 1945, making his stay on earth 84 years, 1 month, 21 days.

He was married to Elizabeth Miller Dcc. 1831, and to this union was bern 5 children, 1 boy, Hamp Miller. of IdlewId. N. C.; 4 girls, Mrs. Clem Miller. of Obids, N ..C.; Mrs. Bazel Bare, of Wagoner N. C.; Miss Maggie Miller, of Idlewild, N. C.; and Mrs O. Hartzog of Concord, Tenn.

Later he was married to Mary Ann Whittington in March, 1897, and to this union was born four children: Webb Miller of Bristol, Va., Fender Miller, Othello, N.C., 2 preceeded him in death. One brother W. S. Miller, Concord, N.C., one sister Mrs. J. F. Hartzog, Idlewild, N.C., 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

He joined the Primitive Baptist Church at Beaver Creek in August,1893, and in 1898 he get a letter of dismissien and was one of the constituing members of River View Church. He lived a consistent member until death, always filling his seat as long as he was able to go. He was loved by all who knew him. We feel our loss is his eternal gain.


1947

BINA JOHNSON, CLIFTON, N. C.

Bina Johnson was born February 15, 1873, died February 2l, 1947, making her stay on earth 74 years, 6 days. She was married to W. A. Johnson, December 23. 1893, To this union were born 9 children, Adolphus Johnson, Clifton, N, C.; W. G. Johnson and Lesley Johnson, West Jefferson, N.C.; Clyde Johnson, Switch Back. W. Va.; Cloud Johnson, Pageston, W. Va.; Mrs. W. W. Roland and Mrs. Orren Weaver of Clifton, N. C, Two children died in infancy. She leaves her husband, W. A. Johnson and 7 children to mourn their loss.

She joined the Primitive Baptist church at North Fork September, 1920 and lived a faithful member until death, always filling hr seat as long as she was able.


1950

JEFFERSON FILMORE HARTZOG

Jefferson Filmore Hartzog was born February 16th 1864. Departed this life Oct. 17, 1949. He was married to Mary J. Miller, Dec. 11 1884. To this union were born, 3 sons, Wiley G., T. Edward and B. K.

He was baptised by Elder H. B, Miller in 1893. He served as county commissioner and other offices in the county. He was a strong believer in doctrine of salvation by grace. He served as clerk of River View church for a number of years and was also clerk of the Senter Association.

He was faithful and devoted to the caused of Our blesed Master. Fought a good fight, kept the faith. Our loss is his eternal rain. Sleep on dear one till the Lord awakes you in His blessed likeness.

1951

A. J. Davis

A. J. Davis, son of Elder C. C. Davis, was born Nov.28, 1879 and died Nov.29, 1950. He was married to Lizzie Farmer Davis Feb. 11, 1899. To this union was born one child who died in infancy.

He professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Pond Mountain, Sat., March 1st, 1902, where he remained a faithful member until death-always filling his place in the church. He was one among our most devoted members. Strong defender of the doctrine of salvation by grace. Our loss is his eternal gain. Sleep on dear one until the Lord awakes you in his likeness.

W. R. Davis

W. R. Davis, son of Elder C. C. Davis, was born May 16, 1875 and died June 26, 1951. He was married to Vena Farmer Davis Feb., 1892. To this union was born 12 children-6 living and 6 dead.

He professed a hope in Christ and joined the church at Pond Mountain Sat., March 1st, 1902 and was later ordained deacon, faithfully discharging his duty till death. He was a strong believer in the doctrine of salvation by grace. Our loss is his eternal gain. Sleep on, dear one till the Lord awakes you in his blessed likeness.


1952

AMANDA ELDRITH

Amandy Eldrith was born December 19, 1865; died January 17, 1952; age 87 years. She was married to J. H. Eldrith, May 6, 1885; unto this union were born four children. three boys and one girl; one boy preceded her in death. She joined the Primitive Baptist church at the age of 18. She was an active and devoted member all of her life. She served as deaconess fifty years or more. She was the daughter of Elder C. C. Davis.

Her husband and. three childion, 13 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, three brother four sisters, and a host of friends mourn her passing. The churcb has lost one of her most devoted members; still our loss is her eternal gain. Sleep on dear one. till the Lord awakes you in His blessed likeness.- Written by Elder Ed Davis.

MRS. MAUD ADLINE GOSS

Mrs. Maud Adline Goss was born March 26, 1887; died March 12, 1952; the daughter of Elehu and Elizabeth Ham. She was married to Wesley Goss. She leaves one daughter, Mrs. Mable Goas Wade, two sisters: Mrs. Lula Hart, Mrs. Rose Latham, and two nephews to mourn. She was a member of the Horse Creek Primitive Baptist Church: remained a faithful member till death. She was among one of our devoted members; strong believer of the doctrine of Salvation by Grace. Sleep on, dear one until the Lord awakes you in His likeness.-Mrs. Lula Hart.

MERTY ANN BARE

Merty Ann Bare was born March 1, 1880; departed this life May 27, 1952, age 72 years 2 months and 12 days. She was married to Hiram Bare Oct. 17, 1902; and to this union were born 11 children--two preceeded her in death. She leaves a husband and nine children--Mrs. Everett Bare, Edgewood, Md.; Lawson Bare, Newport News, Va., Kilby Bare, North East, Md.; Wilson Bare, Idlewild; Mrs. Vernon Phillips, Oval; Walker Bare of the home; Glenn Bare, Jefferson, Paul Bare and Burrell Bare of Crumpler--16 grandchildren, two sisters, and three brothers to mourn her passing. She joind the Primitive Baptist Church at Senter in September 1934, and lived a faithful member until death.

She was a good companion and a loving mother, a good neighbor, and loved by all who knew here. Our loss is her eternal gain.

DAVID W. MILLER

David W. Miller was born Sept. 8, 1884; departed this life, Aug. 20, 1952; age 67 years. 11 months and 11 days; the son of Winfield W. and Celia J. Miller. He was married to Bessi'e Miller, Feb. 17, 1910. To this union were born four children: Ralph Miller, Warrensville, N. C.; Glenn, of West Jelferson, N. C.; Mrs. Verona Witherspoon, Jefferson; Mrs. Beatrice McNeil, Comet, N. C. He leaves his companion, one brother, W. W. Miller, Clifton; two sisters: Mrs. Berlie Miller Comet; Mrs. Bertha May, Martinsville, Va.; and nine grandchildren.

He was afflicted for a number of years. All was done that could be, but could not stay the hand of death His suffering was great, but without a murmur. He received a sweet hope during his sickness, and often said he was ready to go but hated to leave his family. He was a strong believer in the Primitive Baptist doctrine. Their is a vacancy in the home that can never be filled. So, let us look forward to the day when Jesus shall come, and shall speak to the sleeping dead: Arise. Then his body shall be fashioned like the body of our blessed Lord.


1953

W. A. JOHNSON

W. A. Johnson was born July 30, 1873; died Feb. 26, 1953. He was married to Biner Miller, Dec. 23, 1893. To this union were born nine children. His wife and two children preceded him in death; three girls and four boys: Adolphus Johnson, Warrensville, N.C.; Gather Johnson, West Jefferson, N. C.; L. V. Johnson, West Jefferson, N. C.; Claud Johnson, Page, W. Va.; Mrs. Garner Johnson, Switchback, W. Va.; Mrs. W. W. Roland, Warrensville, N. C.; Mrs. Orren Weaver, Warrensville, N. C.; twenty-two grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren survive.

He professed a hope and joined the church at North Fork, about thirty years ago, making a devoted member till death; always went to church as long as he was able. The church has lost a devoted member, the children a good father. Their loss is his eternal gain. Sleep on, dear one, till the dear Lord awakens you in His blessed likeness.


1954

EDIE MILLER SHEETS.

She was born Jan. 19, 1860; died April 16, 1954; age 94 years, two months, 16 days. She was first married to John Miller. To this union was born one child: Mary Pennington, Apple Grove, N. C. She then married Reed Sheets. To this union were born three children: two boys, one girl-Arthor, R. D., and Victora Sheets. Preceding in death, Victora Eldreth, of Tuckerdale, N. C. Also, 21 grandchildren, 69 great-grandchildren, 22 great-great -grandchildren, survive. She has been a member of Horse Creek Church 74 years and a very devoted member; going to church as long as she was able.

She was loved by all who knew her. Our loss is her eternal gain. Sleep dear one, till the Lord awakes you in His likeness.

J. H. ELDRITH.

He was horn September 19, 1865; died June fourth, 1953; age 88 years, nine months, four days. He was married to Amanda Davis Eldrith, May __th, 1885. To this union were born four children, three boys, one girl- ___ver C. Eldrith, Tuckerdale, N. C., W. M. A. Eldrith, Tuckerdale N. C., _____ Sheets, Tuckerdale, N. C., John C. Eldrith, who preceded him in death; __ grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren. He joined the church at Horse Creek over 65 years ago. Later moved his membership to Pond Mountain, where he remained a devoted member until death. He served as a deacon 60 years. He fought a good fight and kept the faith, and loved by all.

The church has lest a good and devoted member. The children and grandcbildren a good father. Our loss is his eternal gain. Brother Dock has gone home to live with Jesus for ever more.

CICIRO W. SPENCER

Ciciro W. Spencer was born Fehruary 22, 1866; departed this life September 29, 1953: age 87 years, 7 months, 7 days. He was the son of William and Ala Spencer. He was married to Jettie Osborn in early life. To this union were born five children-four girls, one boy. He leaves two Brothers, one Sister, 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren to mourn.

He was a strong believer in the Primitive Baptist Doctrine. He never failed to go to church as long as he was able. The church has lost a faithful member and the home a loving father. So sleep on, dear father, until the blessed Lord awakes you in His likeness.

MARY JANE HARTZOG

Mary Jane Hartzog was born January 7, 1863; departed this life March 29, 1953. She was married to J. F. Hartzog December 11, 1884. To this union were born three sons-Wiley C., Edwin, and B. K. She was baptized by Elder H. B. Miller in 1893. She was devoted and faithful to the use of our blessed Master until death. Sleep on, dear Mother, until the Lord awakes you in His blessed likeness.

1955

GEORGE BARE

George Bare was born July 29, 1872. His stay here on earth was 82 years and 11 months. He was married to Rebecca Miller in 1893 and to this union was born seven children. Two proceeded him in death, Georgia Mae and Darius Bare. Other children are Bryant, Worth, Tam, and Robert Bare and Mrs. Carl Ball, nineteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His faith was the Primitive Baptist ana he talked many times of joining the church. He leaves a best of relatives and friends to morn his passing. We feel our loss is his eternal gain.

CALVIN NEWTON DAVIS

Calvin Newton Davis was born September 3, 1881, departed this life March 9, 1955, making his stay on earth 73 years, 5 months, 16 days. He was married to Laura Jan Cox, September 1902, to this union was born the following children: Mrs. Nora Hurley, Joe W. Davis, Mrs. Marie Hurley, Ray Davis, deceased; Bill Davis, Woodrow Davis, Mrs. Ruth Little, Mrs. Dillie Miller, Mrs. Geneva Absber, Paul Davis. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; a brother, Elder Ed Davis, 4 sisters, Mrs. Frances Ham, Mrs. Dema Farmer, Mrs. Ida Roop and Mrs. Ale Phillips.

He joined Pond Mountain Primitive Baptist church in 1903 and later was ordained as Deacon and church Clerk where he served several years, being a rievoted member, always bearing his part of the burden, finishinr his course with joy. He fought a good fight and kept the faith. The church has lost a good member, the community a good neighbor, the wife a devoted husband and the children a loving father, but our loss is his eternal gain.

BEN C. MILLER

Ben C. Miller was born Jan. 7, 1887 and departed this life Friday, Nov. 5, 1954, making his stay on earth 67 years, 9 months and 28 days. He was the son of the late F. M. and Martha Jane Miller. He was married to Katie Alma Eller on February 10, 1905. To this union were born 5 children, Frances Lee Jones, Henry Paul Miller, Lester Vance Miller, Vesta Berniece Eller, Jessie Kate Aberts. His first wife preceeded him in death Nov. 26, 1925.

On July 3, 1927 he was united in marriage to Ella Amanda Burkett. To this union were born three children, Ben Burkett Miller, Marion Hal Miller and Mary Jane Miller. He is also survived by one sister, Mrs. Bessie Miller.

He leaves to mourn his passing a kind and loving wife, 8 children, 10 grand children, 1 great grandchild, 1 sister, 2 nieces, 2 nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at North Fork Primitive Baptist church, Sunday evening, November 7. Elders Ed Davis and G. D. Roten and Rev. Carol Burkett conducted the service.

He received a hope in Christ and united with North Fork Primitive Baptist church on the second Saturday in September 1920 and remained a faithful member until death. He was afflicted from childhood but bore his afflictions with patience, always looking to Jesus the author and finisher of bli faith. When Christ comes the second time without sin unto salvation to gather his people home, the grave that holds him now, will hold him no longer. He will rise up with all the redeemed family of God. Those that are alive and remain on earth shall not hinder them that sleep.


1956

REBECCA ENNIS MILLER BARE

Rebecca Ennis Miller Bare was born January 6, 1877 and died September 4. 1956 making her stay here 79 years, 7 months and 29 days.

She was married to George W. Bare on April 9. 1893, who preceecled her in death. To this union were born 7 children, two of which proceeded her to the grave. She is survived by 5 children: Rob and Tam Bare of Idlewild. Bryant of Oxford, Pennsylvania, Worth of Nottingham, Pennsylvania, and Mrs. Carl Ball of West Jefferson, N. C. 14 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren. 1 sister, 2 brothers and a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

She joined the River View Primitive Baptist Church at an early age and remained faithful. She bore her suffering with patience atid was anxious to die and go home where she would be free from suffering. She was a good wife and mother, a good friend and neighbor, every ready to lend a helping hand She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed by all.


1957

MARTHA ELIZABETH BARE

Martha Elizabeth Bare was horn January 8, 1876. Departed this life March 18, 1957, malting her stay en earth 81 years, 2 months and 10 days.

She was united in marriage to Harrison Bare March 19, 1897. To this union was born 13 children. Her husband and 4 children proceeded her in death. Surviving are 9 children, 39 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.

She professed faith in Christ and joined the Riverview Primitive Baptist church October 9, 1905 and was baptized hy Elder Cal Davis and remainnd a falthfal member until death. The church has lost a faithful membcr, her chidren have lost good mother her brother and sisters a good sister. She is sadly missed by all, but we feel our loss is Heaven's gain.

IDA BELLE SEVERT McNEILL

Ida Belle Severt McNeill was horn June 18, 1869 and departed this life October 3, 1955, making her stay on earth 86 years, 3 months and 15 days.

She was married to John McNeill Septambor 10. 1892. To this union was born 9 children. She is survived by six children, two brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Rachel Cave, Troutdalo Va.; Tom McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Clint McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Mrs. Mary Phillips, West Jefferson, N. C.; Glenn McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Mrs. Effie South, West Jefferson, N. C.

She was preceeded in death by two sons, Hoy and Hamp and a daughter, Clyde.

Also surviving are 33 grandchildren and 26 great grand-children; two brothers, Wiley and Lum Severt; two sisters, Virginia Severt and Carrie Miller.

She professed faith in Christ 40 years ago and joined Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist church of which she remained a faithful member. She attended the services of the church regular until her health prevented it.

She was known as a good neighbor and was loved by everyone. She was known as a good mother of which her children can recall the good things she did for them.

She will be missed by her family and many friend:, but we feel that our loss is heaven's gain.

JOHN QUINCEY McNEILL

John Quincy McNeill was born September 18, 1871 and departed this life Decembor 31, l956 making his stay on earth 85 years, 3 months and 13 days.

He was married to Ida Belle Severt September 18, 1892. To this union was born 9 children. He is surrived by six children.

Mrs. Rachel Cave, Troutdalo Va.; Tom McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Clint McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Mrs. Mary Phillips, West Jefferson, N. C.; Glenn McNeill, West Jefferson, N. C.; Mrs. Effie South, West Jefferson, N. C.

He is also survived by 33 grandchildren and 27 great grand-children.

He was a good neighbor and was loved by everyone. He was known as a good father of which his children can recall the good things he did for them.

He will be missed by his family and many friends, but we feel that our loss is Heaven's gain.

1959

ROXIE HUDSON WYRICK

Roxie Hudson Wyrick was born March 13, 1894-Making her stay on earth 65 years, 7 months and 19 days.

She was the daughter of Gordon and Jane Hudson-both preceded her in death. She was married to James Wyrick, Feb.__.1915. To this union was born four children: Mrs. Mable Bare, Jefferson, N. C.; Mrs. Velan Bare of Columbus, Ohio; Mr. Arnold Wyrick of Winston-Salem, N. C.; one son Sammy Joe who preceded her in death at the age of two. Also surviving are four brothers, and two sisters: John and Bill Hudson of Columbus, Ohio; Fred Hudson of Penn. and Joe of Florida; Mrs. Wiley Johnson of Millers Creek, N. C.: Mrs. Heury Douglass of North Wilkesboro, N. C., also twelve grand children.

She was a member of the Senter Primitive Baptist Church, which she joined at an early age.

Our loss is her eternal gain.

HIRAM GRATSY BARE

Hiram Gratsy Bare was born August 9, 1880. Died June 6, 1959. Making his stay here on earth 78 years, 9 months, and 6 days.

Was married to Mertie Ann Bare, October 17, 1902. To this un1on was born eleven chiidren. Mrs. Ruth Bare of Edgewood, Md. Lawson B. Bare of Newport News, Va. Kilby Bare of North East, Md. Mrs. Mabel Phillips of West Jefferson, N. C. Glenn J. Bare of Jefferson, N. C. Walker Bare and Poul Bare also Burrell Bare of the home. His wife, one son Wilson Bare of Idlewild, N. C. and 2 infant daughters Brucie Fay Bare, and Addie May Bare preceded him in death.

He leaves 18 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, 4 sisters; Mrs. Linda Craft of Fleetwood, N. C. Mrs. Addie Colvard of Crumpler, N. C. Mrs. Mary Crouse of Sparta, N. C. Mrs. Effie McMillan of Aubrey, Texas.

He professed a hope in Christ early in life, joined the Senter Primitive Baptist Church where he remained a faithful member until death.

We feel our loss is his eternal gain.


1960

DEACON WALTER W. MILLER

Walter W. Miller born October 18, 1890. The youngest Son the late W. W. and Colia Miller. Departed this life July 20th 1960, making his stay upon earth 69 years, 9 months and 2 days.

Mr. Miller was united in Matrimony to Ada May on February 14, 1914. In this union he was blessed with five children, Mrs. Kathleen Baker and Harold G. Miller of West Jefferson, N.C., Mrs. Loxie Swafford, Mrs. Cleta Williams of Charlotte, N. C. and Bernard Miller of Lansing, N.C.

Since the passing of Mrs. Miller in 1937, Mr. Miller married Carrie Weaver in 1939, who as a faithful wife he cherished and loved until sleep overtook him.

While Deacon Miller's two brothers, David and William passed on before him, his two Sisters, Mrs. Burlie Miller of Lansing, N. C. and Mrs. Bertha May of Martinsville, Va., survive.

Deacon Miller united with the North Fork Primitive Baptist Chruch the first Sunday in June, 1938.

Deacon Miller's deep-seated principles of CHRISTIAN FAITH made him outstanding in our association, always an inspiration. He was firm in his bejief, never deviating, but always strong in expressing Salvation alone by the GRACE OF GOD. He was also a great teacher for obedience, equally firm as a disciplinarian in chastisement following disobedience.

Deacon Miller's love of God's creatures won for him a warm spot in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing Him.

Deacon Miller's many thoughful acts and kindness in regards to his Personal Family can be attested to by their Great loss.

Deacon Miller, one more of God's Loved ones having received his peace lovin reward as promised.

WILEY BURGESS

Wiley Burgess, the son of George and Hannah Black Burgess, was born February 27, 1878 an'd passed on October 8, 1959 at the age of eighty-one years, seven months and eleven days.

Mr. Burgess professed hope in Christ and joined River View Primitive Baptist Church some thirty years ago.

He was married to Nancy Matilda Absher, December, 1898. To this Union were born eleven children, two of which passed on in infancy. His son, Alton P. Burgess, also passed away April of this year.

Mr. Burgess is survived by his wife, Matilda Absher Burgess, three Sons, G. O. Burgess and Woodrow F. Burgess, of West Jefferson, N. C., Edward Burgess of Mountain City, Tenn., Five daughters, Mrs. Ada Severt, Mrs. Ester South, Mrs. Hazel Bare, Mrs. Evazella Parsons, West Jefferson, N. C., and Mrs. Chessie Faw, Waynesburg, Ky. Thirty-one grandchildren and twenty- six great grandchildren; two brothers, Cicero Burgess of Wilbar, N. C. and Roby Burgess of North Wilkesboro, N. C.; and four sisters, Mrs. Mary Sheets and Mrs. Sallie Sheets of Scottsville, N. C., Mrs. Julie Eller of North Wilkesboro, N. C.

A host of other relatives and friends to mourn our loss.

We feel our loss is his Eternal Gain.

MRS. G. W. CAUDILL

Mrs. Rosie Severt Caudill passed away at 10:30 p.m., Saturday, January 23rd, 1960, the wife of George W. Caudill. Mrs. Caudill was born in 1866 in Ashe County, N. C. the daughter of Jackson and Caroline Severt.

Mrs. Caudill is survived by her husband, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Burgess of West Jefferson, N. C., Six sons, Todd and Ted of Glendale Springs, N. C.; Robert of Powell, Wyoming; Felix of Columbus, Ohio; Darius of Concord, N. C.; Edd of Greensboro, Md.; 37 grandchildren; Two brothers and a sister.

She spent the better part of her life in Ashe County, N. C., having been married to Mr. Caudill for about 75 years.

Mrs. Caudill joined the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church at an early age, where she remained a faithful member until her passing to her Eternal Rest.


1961

JESSIE HAMPTON MILLER

Jessie Hampton Miller was born November 1, 1888, died January 11, 1961, making his stay on earth 72 years, 2 months, and 10 days.

He was married to Blanche Hartzog March 27, 1938. He is survived by his wife and the fol]owing sisters: Emma Miller of Rt. 2, West Jefferson, N. C., Mattie Bare of Wagoner, N. C., Maggie Miller of Idlewild and Flora Hartzog of Concord, Tenn.; two half brothers, Webb Miller of Bristol, Va., Fender Miller of Hayes, N. C. and a number of nieces and nephews and friends.

Brother Miller made a profession of faith in Christ several years ago, but put off being baptized until last June when he was baptized into the fellowship of River View Primitive Baptist Church, where he was a happy, loyal and devoted member. No one was ever happier in their religion. It was a big help during his sickness to have the faith in Christ that he had. He got sick about a year ago, and during much of that time he suffered much pain. Through all his suffering he leaned heavily on his faith to carry him through.

It is hard to give up one who has meant so much to his family and friends. He was one who stayed at home and worked hard but always had time to help those in need. We grieve at his passing but believe he is where all pains are gone. He said he had a home over yonder where he would be better off. So we bow in submission to the will of Him who made and loves us all. We feel our loss is his eternal gain.

GEORGE SEVERT

George Severt, the son of Jackson and Caroline Miller Severt was born March 18, 1866, departed this life 3 A. M. January 16, 1961, making his stay upon earth 94 years, 10 months and 2 days.

He was married to Martha E. Miller on November 16, 1891 who preceded him in death. To this union were born ten children, one of which passed on in infancy.

Brother Severt is survived by six sons, Jessie Abner Severt of West Jefferson, N. C., Gaither Severt, of Fleetwood, N. C., Avery Severt, of Roseville, Ohio, Callie Grant Severt of West Jefferson, N. C., Edward Severt of Laurel Springs, N. C., Manley Severt of Patriot, Ohio.

Three daughters, Mrs. Mary Isabella Miller of N. C., Mrs. Annie Mabel S. Payne of West Jefferson, N. C. Mrs. Ida Miller of Patriot, Ohio.

Three brothers who preceded him in death.

Ten sisters, all of which preceded him in death except one, Mrs. Sarah Jane Mash of Jefferson, N.C., a host grandchildren and great grandchildren to mourn our loss.

Brother Severt professed hope in Christ and joined Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church in August 1915 and later became deacon of the church.

Deacon Severt's deep-seated principles of Christian faith made him outstanding in the church, always an inspiration. He was firm in his belief, never deviating but always strong in expressing salvation by the grace of God.

Deacon Severt's love of God's creatures won for him a warm spot in the hearts of all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Deacon Severt's many thoughtful acts and kindness in regards to his personal familv can be attested to by their great loss. We feel that our loss is his eternal gain.

MAUDE MABEL CRAVEN

Maude Mabel Craven was born January 11, 1881, departed this life September 22,1960, making her stay on earth 79 years, 8 months, 10 days.

She was united in marriage to Rowan Craven in 1897. To this union was born 7 children. Her husband and 2 children preceded her in death. Surviving are 5 children, 22 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and a host of friends and relatives.

She professed faith in Christ and joined the Roans Creek Primitive Baptist Church a number of years ago and remained a faithful member until death.

Sister Craven was known as a good mother and neighbor, and was loved by everyone. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, and was especially good to visit and help the sick. She is sadly missed by all, but we feel our loss is Heaven's gain.

DAVID ANDREW SOUTH

David Andrew South was born September 17, 1898 and departed this life July 29,1961, making his stay on earth 62 years, 10 months and 12 days.

He was married to Belle Severt August 26, 1924. To this union were born nine children, one daughter preceding him in death on November 4, 1943. The following survive:

Robert South of Jefferson, N. C., Earl South of Hickory, N. C., Carl South of Warrensville, N. C., Ray South of Morehead City, N. C., Len South of Jacksonville, N. C., Wade, Margaret, Juanita of the home and 11 grand children. He leaves a father, Dickie South, three brothers and two sisters, Alonza South of Wilbar, N. C., Caul South of Lenoir, N. C., Howard South of West Jefferson, N. C., Mrs. Alan Sheets of Fleetwood, N. C., Mrs. Council Miller of Baltimore, Md.

He had been in declining health 19 years and bedfast for 16 months.

Brother South made a profession in Christ and joined Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist Church May 18, 1960. He was then baptised May 23, 1960.

Brother South read his Bible daily for 16 years and he loved to hear the hymns and prayers of his fellowmen. He left a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

We feel our loss is his eternal gain.

BERTHA KILBY RICHARDSON

Bertha Kilby Richardson, daughter of Elder T. H. and Marinthia Kilby, was born March 3,1880 and departed this life August 15, 1961, making her stay on earth 81 years, 5 months, and 12 days. She was married to Luther Richardson, who preceded her in death. To this union were born 10 children, Maude Testerman of Holt wood. Pa., Edna Sexton of Marion, Va., Bradley, Fred, Kyle, Dwight, and Wade, all of Rugby, Va., Herman of Bel Air, Md., and Dougal and an infant who preceded her in death.

She professed a hope and joined Big Helton Primitive Baptist Church around 60 years ago and remained a faithful and dedicated member until death. Surviving are 8 children, 21 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, 3 sisters: Mattie Owen of Pequca, Pa., Ala McGuire of Boone, N. C., and Charity Reeves of West Jefferson, N. C.; 6 br6thers: Millard of Peach Bottom, Pa., Elder Charlie of Galax, Va., Gaither of West Jefferson, N. C., Elder Webb of Rock, W. Va., Carl and Preston of Marion, Va. She was a kind and good mother and neighbor. She will be greatly missed. She was so patient through all her long suffering. We will all miss her and greatly but we feel our loss is Heaven's gain.

MATILDA ABSHER BURGESS

Matilda Absher Burgess was born Sept. 17, 1877, the daughter of Tobias and Millie Wingler Absher. Her husband, Wiley Burgess, died on Oct. 8, 1959.

She is survived by five daughters, Mrs. Ada Severt, Mrs. Ester South, Mrs. Hazel Bare, and Eva Zella Parsons, all of West Jefferson, N. C., Mrs. Chessie Faw of Waynesburg, Ky. Three sons, G. O. and Woodrow, both of West Jefferson, N.C., and Edward of Mountain City, Tenn., and one son that preceded her in death, Alton.

Sister Burgess professed hope in Christ in her teens, united with the Union Baptists, then some thirty years ago she united with the Riverview Primitive Baptist Church where she remained a faithful member until death.

Sister Burgess was a great Bible reader, she had read the Bible through many times, always enjoyed the good old hymns of Zion, and the preaching of the gospel.

It is hard to give one up who has meant so much to her family and friends, and to the community.

We feel our loss is Heaven's gain.

DIANA ELIZABETH FARMER DAVIS

Diana Elizabeth Farmer Davis was born April 17, 1882 and died June 10,1960, making her stay on earth 78 years, 1 month, and 17 days. She was first married to H. L. Davis. To this union was born one child who died in infancy. Then later on she married C. L. Davis who now survives.

She professed a hope and joined the Church at Pond Mountian where she lived a devoted member until death.

She leaves the following brothers and sisters to mourn her loss: Harrison Farmer of Watauga, Tenn., Wiley Farmer, Gray Farmer, and Dewey Farmer, all of Whitetop, Va., five sisters, Virra Davis of Bluefield, W. Va., Ledia Myers; of Ubanks, Ky., Polly Cox, Audrey Cox, Elsie Davis, all Whitetop, Va. and a host of friends to mourn her loss. We feel our loss is her eternal gain.

Sleep on, dear one, until God awakens you in His likeness.

WINTFORD CALLOWAY

Wntford Calloway was born July 19, 1884 and departed this life September 22, 1960, making his stay on earth 76 years, 2 months, and three days.

He was married to Ethel Teague, July 13, 1911.

He is survived by his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Charles DeVore of La Mirada, Calif. and Mrs. Roger Pugh of Elkton Md.; one brother, William Calloway of West Jefferson; five sisters, Mrs. Rufus Bledsoe of Gap Creek, Mrs. Bob Woodruff, Idlewild, Mrs Hamp Colvard of Obids and Mrs. George Miller of West Jefferson.

Also five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He led a quiet and peaceful life making many friends and no enemies.

He joined Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist Church lived in a sweet hope of the Resurrection and everlasting life.

P. T. McNEILL

P. T. McNeill was born August 18,1896, to Gaither McNeill and Alice McMillan McNeill.

He professed faith in Christ in his teens and was a faithful member of the Beaver Creek Primitive Baptist church, and helped in building the new church erected on the premises of the old one.

An ordained minister, he performed many noteworthy Christian services for his community and church.

He departed this life March 23, 1961 and was laid to rest in the MeNeill Cemetery at his home.

Brother McNeill left behind a devoted wife and eight loving children to mourn their loss. But they have the blessed assurance that their loss is his eternal gain.

Sleep on God's little ones, until your Saviour comes in the clouds of His Glory, to awaken the sleeping.


1962

IDA MAE JOHNSON

Ida Mae Johnson was born December 13, 1896, departed this life December 25, 1961, making her stay on earth 65 years and 12 days.

She was united in marriage to Adolpus Marion Johnson 19th day of November 1915.

To this union was born five children. Mrs. Edna York, Freeman, W. Va.; Mrs. Lillie Hodge, Switchback, W. Va.; Mr. Paul Johnson, Warrensville, N. C.; and Roscoe Johnson, West Jefferson, N. C. One son, Charlie, died in infancy.

One half brother, Rev. Frank Tucker; 21 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren.

She united with the North Fork Primitive Baptist Church about 37 years ago. Where she remained a most faithful member until her death.

It is hard to give one up who has meant so much to her family and friends, and to the community.

We feel our loss is Heaven's gain.

GEORGE W. CAUDILL

George Washington Caudill, 97, of Glendale Springs, N.C. died February 9, 1962, at his home after a brief illness.

He was born in Ashe county to Jerry Caudill and Mary Koontz Caudill.

His wife, the former Rosie Severt, died in 1961.

Surviving are six sons, Ted and Todd Caudill, both of Glendale Springs, N. C.; Robert Caudill of Powell, Wyo.; Felix Caudill of Columbus, Ohio.; Darius Caudill of Concord, N. C.; Ed Caudill of Greensboro, Md.; and a daughter, Mrs. Mary Burgess of West Jefferson, N. C.

Mr. Caudill was a member of Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church for 50 years. His deep-seated principles of Christian faith made him outstanding in the church, never deviating but always strong in expressing salvation by the Grace of God.

He is missed by all, but we feel our loss is His Eternal Gain.

S. J. MILLER

S. J. Miller was born November 23, 1874, departed this life January 1, 1957.

Mr. Miller was united in marriage to Adelaide Phillips March 31, 1909, to this union was born five children, two of which preceded him in death in infancy. Surviving are three sons, Presley Miller and Paul Miller of West Jefferson, N. C., Carl Miller of Glendale Springs, N. C.; six grand children, seven great grandchildren. A host of other relative and friends to mourn our loss.

Mr. Miller joined the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church in 1913, where he, a few years later, became clerk of the church who remained a good faithful and devoted member and clerk until death. Also he was firm in his lief, never deviating, but always strong in expressing salvation alone by the Grace of God.

We feel that our loss is His Eternal Gain.


1963

GEORGE ROBERT MASH

George Robert Mash, 86 of Fleetwood, N. C. Died August 2, 1963, at the home of Gaither Severt. He had been in declining health for about three year, seriously ill for 2 weeks.

He was united in marriage to Ida Miller, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. J. G. Severt, of Fleetwood, N. C.; Mrs. R. C. Oliver, of North Wilkesboro, N. C.; Mrs. J. H. Severt, of West Jefferson, N. C.; one son. Mr. Donald Mash, of Glendale Springs, N. C.; 21 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great- grandchildren.

He united with the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church, July 26, 1961. Due to sickness he was never able to attend church, but was always mindful of his profession.

He is missed by all, we feel our loss is his eternal gain.
