
Funeral seervices were conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at the Dawalt Chapel for Sullivan Walter Coomes, age 77, a resident of 607 North High Street, Salem, (In.) Bro. William Gaddis officiated at the rites. Graveside rites were conducted at the Brookside Cemetery at Campbellsville, Kentucky, at 2 p.m. Saturday, where burial followed. Mr. Coomes was born March 9, 1897 in Virginia, the son of Anderson and Susan Coomes. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy and had been a resident of Salem, (In.) for the past twelve years. He was a retired employee of the Washington County (In.) Hospital and was also retired from his own furniture repair business. He died suddenly March 20 on the Salem public square.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Womack Coomes; a sister, Cleo Luken, Campbellsville, Kentucky; three grand children, nine great grandchildren step grandchildren and one step daughter. Mrs. Mary Henning, Hardinsburg, Kentucky. One son, one daughter, three sisters and one brother preceded him in death.
