Mrs. Sarah Burnette
Funeral services for Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth McRoberts Taylor Burnette, 88, who died at the home of a son, Osborne Taylor, Galax, on Monday, April 17, were held at the local Church of the Nazarene Wednesday at 2pm. Rev. Fred Drayer, pastor of the church; Rev. R. M. Perry and Rev. D. E. Perry conducted the services, with W. P. Davis offering a prayer. J. C. Pierce sang three solo selections during the services. Among these were "Nearer My God To Thee", and "Rock of Ages". Billy Beamer played the piano.
The deceased was the widow of the late Andy Burnette, to whom she was married in January 1918, and who died July 3, 1935. Her first husband, the late Owen Thomas Taylor, to whom she was married in 1881, died many years ago. Mrs. Burnette was the daughter of the late Tom and Liddie McRoberts.
Surviving are two sons, Osborne Taylor, Galax, and Owen Taylor, Elk Creek; two brothers, Tommy McRoberts, Coal Creek, and John McRoberts, Galax; two sisters, Mrs. Nancy Holderfield, Fries, and Mrs. Polly Smith, Galax; 18 grandchildren, 60 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. Three other sisters also preceeded Mrs. Burnette in death.
Interment was in the Goodson Cemetery, near Galax, under Vaughan-Guynn direction.
