Tabor

Pauline Louise Hylton Tabor, age 73, died Monday, March 20, 2000 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.

Mrs. Tabor was born in Maybeury, W.Va., the daughter of the late Harry and Cora Sheppard Hylton. She was a former resident of Pocahontas and had been a resident of Valley Health Care Center for a number of years.

She was the widow of Hansel Tabor and a member of the Pocahontas Baptist Church.

Surviving are four sisters, Madelyn Jennings, St. Paul, Hazel Richards, Bluewell, W.Va., Ethel Thurston, Princeton, W.Va., and Joyce Cole, Pocahontas; one brother, Bill Hylton, Pocahontas; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, March 22, at 11 a.m. in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum Chapel in Bluewell, W.Va. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.

Tackett

Rae E. Tackett, 81, of Abingdon, died Wednesday, March 19, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She was a native of Pocahontas, and was formerly of Powhatan where she worked as a dietitian with the Bon Aire Learning Center. She retired to Abingdon in 1980.

She was the widow of Paul Tackett and was also preceded in death by a son, Paul Tackett.

Survivors include one son, Jack Wilson, Bristol; three daughters, Mrs. William (Ellen) Garrett, Abingdon, Mrs. Jim (Barbara) Bishop, Damascus, and Mrs. Stanley (Janet) Barr, Chilhowie; 15 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, March 22, in Lebanon United Methodist Church Cemetery in Chilhowie with the Rev. R.J. Cullop officiating.

Talbert

Estel Alvis Talbert, age 61, of Saltville, died Thursday, May 7, 1998 in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Mountain Home, Tenn.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran.

Survivors include two sisters, Juanita Hershman, Abingdon, and Helen Felty, Salem; several nieces and nephews; a loving friend, Jeannie Mudd, Bristol, Tenn.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 10, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Bishop Algie Houchins officiating. Burial was in the Allison Family Cemetery.

Talbert

Charles Edward Talbert, age 93, of Glade Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

He was a retired miner with U.S. Gypsum and was of the Church of God faith.

Survivors include his wife, Maxie O'Quinn Talbert; three sons, Glen Talbert, Houma, La., Eddie Lee Talbert and Wayne Talbert, both of Glade Spring; two daughters, Lorraine Talbert, Nutley, N.J., and Linda Darlene Banks, Glade Spring; three sisters, Etta Mae Wilcox and Ida Belle Casey, both of Meadowview, and Leota Maloyd of Aberdeen, Md.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; one step-great- grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Darrell Henley officiating. Interment was in Mount Rose Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Talbert

David A. Talbert, age 90, of Saltville, died Saturday, July 12, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a member of McCready United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Olin Corporation.

Survivors include four daughters, Virginia Neese, Frances Bordwine and JoAnn Taylor, all of Saltville, and Mable Davidson, Crockett; three sons, Clarence Talbert and Robert Dean Talbert, both of Saltville, and Jack C. Talbert, Richmond; one brother, William Glenn Talbert, Saltville; one sister, Lucy Pauley, Saltville; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great- grandchildren; two special friends, Christine Puckett and Sally Rhea.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 15, in Mount Rose Cemetery Mausoleum with the Rev. Kyle French officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Saltville Rescue Squad or the Saltville Fire Department.

Samuel G. Talbert, age 75, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Attie Hyman Talbert, and was a veteran of World War II.

He retired from Olin Corporation and was a lifetime farmer.

Survivors include five sons: Dale Talbert, George Talbert and Darrell Talbert, all of Saltville, Charles Talbert, South Carolina, and Bill Talbert, Marion; two daughters and sons-in-law, Molly and Floyd Taylor, Abingdon, and Lena and Louie Stevenson, Saltville; two daughters-in- law, Regina Greer Talbert, Saltville, and Norma Talbert, South Carolina; six granddaughters; one grandson; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 3, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Billy Gillespie and the Rev. Jennings Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Saltville Rescue Squad.

Charles F. "Pug" Talley Jr., age 57, died Thursday, July 13, 2000 at his home in Saltville.

Mr. Talley was retired from H.S. Williams after 33 years.

Surviving are his wife, Maxine G. Talley, Saltville; one son, Charles F. Talley III, Saltville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Betty Jo and Frank Stanley, Glade Spring, and Rosetta and Michael Beverly, Chilhowie; his mother, Vivian H. Talley, Saltville; one brother, Fred Talley, Elkhart, Ind.; one sister, Dorothy King, Lebanon; four grandchildren, Heather Rose Stanley, M.J. Beverly, Austin Stanley, and Dalton Beverly; several nieces and nephews including special niece, Vickie Talley and special nephew, Jeff Talley.

Funeral services were conducted Friday, July 14, at 8 pm. at the Valley View Assembly of God with the Rev. Bill Delp, the Rev. James Robbins, and the Rev. Dennis Banks officiating.

Lyle B. "Pete" Talmage, age 81, of Marion, died Saturday, March 28, 1998 at the Smyth County Community Hospital. He was a native of Brimfield, Ill., and has lived in Smyth County since 1975. He was a retired employee of the Caterpillar Corporation from Peoria, Ill., and Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carson Talmage.

He is survived by one daughter, Rebecca Hemmings, Calgary, Canada; four sons, Guy Talmage, Tazewell, Carl Talmage, Stuart, Fla., Tom Talmage, Marion, and William Talmage, Coral Springs, Fla.; three grandchildren, Amanda Talmage, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, Peter Talmage, Horseshoe, N.C., Scott and Danny Hitchcock, Alberta, Canada; two daughters-in-law, Bonnie Talmage and Kim Talmage; special family friends, Donna and Gary Smith, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.

Helen Holmes Tate, age 87, of Dublin, died Monday, March 20, 2000 in the Pulaski Community Hospital.

Mrs. Tate was born in Smyth County on Oct. 3, 1912, the daughter of the late Robert W. Holmes and Garian Copenhaver Holmes. She was a graduate of Marion Junior College which is now part of Roanoke College. She was a retired medical secretary at St. Albans Hospital in Radford.

Mrs. Tate was a member of the Dublin Presbyterian Church and was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Edward B. Holmes.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Rev. Dr. Manson B. Tate of Dublin; one daughter, Carolyn Elizabeth (Betsy) Tate of Dublin; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert (Bob) Carrington Tate and Rebecca Luffman Tate of Lithonia, Ga.; three grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Tate, Mary Charlotte Tate and James Andrew Tate, all of Lithonia, Ga.; one sister, Mrs. Denton Hull of Marion; one brother and sister-in-law, Charles W. and Dorothy Holmes of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday, March 23, at 3 p.m. at Dublin Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Susan Cyre and the Rev. John K. Boyd officiating. Janet Freeman Tate, age 67, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1999 in a Vallejo, Calif., hospital.

Ms. Tate was a native of Marion and graduated from Marion High School. She was the daughter of the late Paul Jackson and Viola P. Freeman of Marion.

She is survived by one daughter, Tina Gayle Burns; three grandchildren, Tracy, Jerry and Michael; two brothers, Franklin Freeman of Atkins, and Ralph J. Freeman of Columbus, Mich.

Funeral and burial will be held Monday, Dec. 27, in Vallejo, Calif.

Jacob Lewis Taylor, age 78, of Saltville, died Wednesday, April 29, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was preceded in death by one son, William Dewy Taylor.

He was a World War II veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Coleen Davenport Taylor, Saltville; two sons, Norman Lewis Taylor, Hendersonville, N.C., and Nolan J. Arthur Franklin Taylor, age 80, died Wednesday, Feb. 12, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a retired employee of the Olin Corporation. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jenny Taylor.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. James E. (Carole) Workman, Augusta, Ga., Mrs. Ronnie (Jeral) Davis, Greer, S.C., and Mrs. James R. (Linda) Hart, Nashville, Tenn.; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Nora S. Taylor, age 91, of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 in Francis Marion Manor Nursing Home in Marion.

She was the widow of Wilda Taylor and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Chilhowie.

Taylor, Baltimore, Md., and Earl Taylor, Saltville; two daughters, Flossie Gerasco, Clarksburg, W.Va., and Flora Cathleen Smith, Baltimore, Md.; two brothers, Ed Stiddoms and Lee Stiddoms, both of Jefferson, N.C.; one sister, Fannie Bowman, Winston-Salem, N.C.; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and two great-great- grandchildren.

Dottie Taylor, age 59, died Friday, May 22, 1998 in the Lake Taylor Hospital, Norfolk.

Lydia Lou Taylor, age 80, died Monday, March 31, 1997 at her home in Marion.

She was born April 11, 1916 in Smyth County, the daughter of Andrew Caswell Taylor and Mary Catherine Norman Taylor. She was a member of the Furnace Hill Lutheran Church and was retired from the Harwood Manufacturing Company.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Faye and Hugh Mauney, Marion; one brother, Mack Taylor and wife Sadie, Lancaster, Ohio; three grandchildren, Linda (White) Burchette and husband Steve, Jefferson, N.C., Michael White, Hickory, N.C., and Greg White and wife Stephanie, Hillsville; two great-grandchildren, Cassie and Christian White, Hillsville; one step-great-grandchild, Stephen Burchette, Jefferson, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Mabel Taylor, Waynesville, Mo.; several very special nieces and nephews.

Velma Cole Taylor, 83, died Monday, Nov. 10, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County and retired as the deputy treasurer of Washington County in 1978.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Abingdon, and was the widow of Charles Clifton Taylor Sr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles Clifton Taylor Jr.

Survivors include two sisters, Sara Cole Aubitz, Abingdon, and Jean Cole Doss, Damascus; one brother, Bob Cole, Damascus; two grandsons, Charles Clifton Taylor III, Mobile, Ala., and Eric Harbard Taylor, Marietta, Ga.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Ashe County to Millard Dancy and Hester Cleary Dancy. She owned her family business, J.T. Furniture in West Jefferson. She was a member of Faith Chapel Church of Deep Gap. She was preceded in death by her father, Millard Dancy; and two brothers, Sam and Ray Dancy.

Irvin Matthew Taylor, age 67, of Advance, N.C., died Friday, April 17, 1998.

Mr. Taylor was a native of Saltville and was a retired truck driver. He was a member of the Clemmons Baptist Church and served in the U.S. Naval Reserve.

Survivors include his wife, Frances F. Eleanor Grace Lawson Taylor, age 76, died Thursday, Sept. 4, 1997 at her home in Abingdon.

She was a native of and had lived in North Holston before she and her husband were transferred by the Olin Chemical Corp. to Cleveland, Tenn., in 1961, and after retirement, moved to Abingdon.

She was a charter member of both the Riverview Presbyterian Church, Saltville, and the Northside Presbyterian Church, Cleveland, Tenn.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by one daughter, Cleo McAllister, and two brothers, R.L. "Bobby" Lawson and Jimmy Lawson.

Survivors include her husband, Robert H. Taylor Sr.; one daughter, Cora Sue Taylor Thayer, Abingdon; one son, Robert H. Taylor Jr., Abingdon; one brother, Bill Lawson, Manassas; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas, Radford, and Peggy McCready, Glade Spring; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Edith Frances Taylor, age 81, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 1996 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Washington County and had lived most of her life in Smyth County. She was the widow of Guy Taylor and was a member of the Adwolfe Freewill Baptist Church.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law: Frances Louise and Charlie Owens, Marion; two sons and daughters-in-law: Bobby E. and Becky Taylor, Chilhowie, and William L. "Billy" and Linda Taylor, Marion; one sister, Blanche Moretz, Bristol; five grandchildren: Tracey Taylor, Jane Taylor, Matthew Thompson, Joy Taylor, and Taryn Taylor.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Marion Boggs, the Rev. R.J. Cullop, and the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Interment was in the Rosewood Memorial Gardens, Rural Retreat.

Taylor

Curtis O. Taylor, age 60, of Saltville, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

He was a member of the Light House Baptist Church and owner/operator of Taylor Used Cars in Broadford.

Survivors include his wife, Bernita O. Taylor; one son, David Taylor, Broadford; two daughters, Marie Elliott, West Jefferson, N.C., and Lisa Heath, Chilhowie; one sister, Lois Estep, Saltville; six grandsons; several nieces and nephews.

Totten

Former Saltville Mayor William J. "Bill" Totten, 87, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at his home in Saltville. He was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth Brickey Totten. Totten was a well-known area resident and local businessman. He served on the Saltville Town Council before being elected mayor. He served as mayor from 1964 through 1972.

"Mayor Totten was the first mayor I served with," said Ruth Austin, Saltville clerk-treasurer. "He did an awful lot of good things for this town. He was just an all-around good person."

A member of the Madam Russell United Methodist Church, Totten was a Sunday School teacher, a member of the Administrative Board and of the church's Board of Trustees.

Totten was a member of the William King Masonic Lodge 227 and the Smyth County Shriners. He was also a member of the Saltville Senior Citizens and was instrumental in the organization getting the grant to build its senior citizens' center. Totten was also a charter member of the Saltville-Rich Valley Lions Club.

Totten is survived by his daughter June B. Totten, and two brothers K. O. and T. W. Totten, all of Saltville. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 24, at the Madam Russell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bill Cahill and the Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery.

Williams

Retired Saltville school teacher, Helen Neff Williams, 81, died Saturday, Aug. 22, at Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn. Williams, the daughter of Greek and Lillian Neff was born May 6, 1917, in Rural Retreat. She was preceded in death by her husband N. O. Williams, her sisters Billie N. Medwin, Frances N. Akers, Catherine N. Cassell and her brother Greek "Dick" Neff.

Williams graduated from Virginia Intermont and Emory and Henry College. She retired from the Smyth County school system where she taught for many years. "Mrs. Williams was an outstanding teacher," said Dr. Marvin Winters, superintendent of schools for Smyth County. "She contributed a great deal to the lives of many children. She was well respected by all of us in the profession and we are very sorry at her loss."

Williams was a member of the St. Paul's Episcopal Church and served as the organist for the church. She was also an avid reader and served as a volunteer for the Saltville Branch of the Smyth-Bland Regional Library. Williams was also active in the Saltville Senior Citizens.

"This is a terrible tragedy," Saltville Mayor Frank Lewis said. "When I first came to Saltville, Mrs. Williams and Mrs. Viola Clear took me under their wing at the elementary school. Mrs. Williams remained a true and dear friend ever since."

Williams is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Helen W. and Craig Barbrow, Saltville, and Betty Bob W. and Bill Horan, Avon, N.C., one sister Patricia N. Furr, Chesterfield, six grandchildren, Craig Barbrow, Tim Barbrow, Kristin B. Comer, Richard Lewis, Casey Lewis and Kimberley L. Demet. Eight great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 24, at 11 a.m., in the St. Paul's Episcopal Church with the Rev. W. R. Pickels officiating. Burial followed in the Elizabeth Cemetery. Memorial donations can be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Saltville.

Taylor

Virginia Mae "Jenny" Taylor, age 70, of McVey's Rest Home, died Friday, July 9, 1999 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Mrs. Taylor was born in Saltville and lived near Abingdon most of her life.

Surviving are a daughter, April Christeen Taylor of Paris, Tenn.; two sons, Norman Taylor of Hendersonville, N.C., and Robert Boardwine of Marion; one sister, Maudie Taylor of Paris, Tenn.; one brother, George Moss of Saltville; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.

Wyatt

Lizzie Estelle Hunt Wyatt, age 59, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, July 10, 1999 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.

She attended Buckeye Hollow Holiness Church.

Surviving are her husband, John E. Wyatt; three daughters and sons-in-law, Rosa and Tom Lane, Cathy and Tony Rector and Nancy and Earl Looney, all of Glade Spring; two brothers, Dewey Hunt of North Carolina, and Curtis Hunt of Saltville; three sisters, Katie Smith of Saltville, Claudia McMahan of Chilhowie and Dora Pruitt of Mendota; one granddaughter, Heather Loonie; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, July 12, at 11 a.m. in Mount Rose Cemetery with the Rev. Bobby Briggs and the Rev. Gene Little officiating.

Sally Olivia Shupe Taylor, age 67, of Marion, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996 in the Radford hospital.

Mrs. Taylor was a native of Smyth County and a graduate of the Marion College. She retired from the Southampton/Deerfield Correctional Farm in Capron. She worked at the Presbyterian Board of Christian Education in Richmond for three years and at the Southwestern State Hospital in Marion for many years as a secretary. She was employed by the state of Virginia for a total of 27 years.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her loving husband, Sydney S. Taylor; her father, J.D. Shupe Sr., and her sister, Betty Harris.

Survivors include one son, Michael S. Taylor, Baltimore, Md.; one daughter, Katrinia Brown, Eufaula, Ala.; her mother, Ella Kate Shupe, Marion; two brothers, J.D. Shupe Jr., and John and Janet Shupe, Marion; eight sisters: Mrs. Larry (Mary Lee) Morella, Rockville, Md.; Mrs. Arlen (Lula Kate) Eller, New Market; Mrs. Blackie (Maria) Smith, and Mrs. Bobby (Joan) Snider, both of Glade Spring, Mrs. Peyton (Nette) Campbell, Mrs. Wiley (Jane) Colley, Mrs. Ford (Edith) Sage, and Mrs. Wayne (Helen) Heffinger, all of Marion; four grandchildren: Michelle Harmon, Erin Taylor, Stephanie Brown and Jessica Brown; 22 nieces and nephews, 28 great-nieces and great- nephews.

Jason Todd "Jay Tee" Taylor, age 19, of Glade Spring, died Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He was a son of John and JoAnne Brannon Taylor of Glade Spring, a freshman at Virginia Intermont College and a 1999 graduate of Patrick Henry High School where he was a participant in the school athletic program. He was of the Presbyterian faith.

Surviving, besides his parents, are a sister, Amanda Leigh Seymore of Glade Spring; grandmothers, Marie Polly "Mamaw Polly" Bowers Brannon of Abingdon, and Hazel W. "Nannie Taylor" Taylor of Meadowview; special friend, Sara Stiltner of Meadowview; several cousins, aunts, uncles, great-aunts, and great-uncles.

Joseph Edward Taylor, age 48, of Saltville, died Sunday, May 28, 2000 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Mr. Taylor was an employee of the Ball Corp. in Bristol, and a U.S. Army veteran.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth G. "Deanie" Taylor; two daughters, Nina Jean Taylor, and Brenda Gail Tuggle, both of Saltville; two sisters, Naomi T. Collins of Marion, and Mary Taylor of Tannersville; two brothers, Arthur George Taylor and James C. Taylor, both of Tannersville; two grandchildren, Rebecca Lee Tuggle and Eric Wayne Barbrow; several nieces and nephews.

Mildred Wyatt Taylor, age 77, widow of Claude Taylor, died Saturday, May 29, 1999 in Newark, Del.

She is survived by two sisters, Mamie Blevins of Marion, and Mable Dolinger of Newark, Del.; several nieces and nephews including Karolyn and George Adkins of Newark, Del., with whom she made her home.

Funeral services were held Monday, May 31, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Charles Blevins officiating. Burial followed in Round Hill Cemetery.

Annie Holmes Taylor, age 84, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Tazewell.

Mrs. Taylor was preceded in death by her husband, James Emory Taylor and was a member of the Tannersville Church of Christ.

Survivors include one brother, Graham Holmes of Tannersville; several nieces and nephews.

Bessie P. Tedder, age 89, died Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999 at her home in Abingdon.

She was a native of Smyth County and had lived most of her life in Washington County. She was a member of Mt. View Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Ruby Mazza.

Terry
Carolyn Terry Stevens of 815 Piedmont Ave. , Bristol, Va. ,owner and president of a Bristol potato chip company that operated for 67 years, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2000, in Wellmont Hospice House she was 54.

She was a lifelong resident of Bristol and a daughter of the late Payton and Oralee Greene Terry.

She was a graduate of Bristol Virginia High School and East Tennessee State University. She was a member of State Street United Methodist Church and attended the Vineyard Christian Fellowship, where she was a member of the Wednesday Morning Women's Bible Study. She was a former teacher in the Bristol Virginia School System and a former realtor.

Terry's Inc. , which had made potato chips since Mrs. Stevens' father started the company in 1932, ceased operation in June.

Surviving are her husband, Kenneth Edward Stevens; four daughters, Terry S. Henner of Atlanta. Tracy Stevens and Julie S. Little, both of Bristol Virginia, and Jennifer Stevens of Charlotte, N.C.; a son, Jason Stevens of Bristol Tennessee; two sisters, her identical twin Connie Bundy of Abingdon and Patty Kelley of Scottsdale, Ariz.; a brother, John Terry of Bristol Tennessee; nine grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11 a.m. in State Street United Methodist Church by Oakley-Cook Funeral Home. The Rev. Fred Dearling and Brad Stout will officiate. Burial will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Mrs. Stevens was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Terry.

Among survivors are sister-in-law Paige Terry; brother-in-law John Bundy; daughter-in-law Lisa Jacobs Stevens; and sons-in-law Joe Henner and Mike Little.

Don Edward Testerman, age 72, died Wednesday, April 26, 2000 at his home in Street, Md.

Mr. Testerman was born in Grant on Feb. 1, 1928, a son of the late Neal M. and Cloie (Stone) Testerman. He was a longtime resident of Harford County and worked as a self-employed carpenter, retiring in 1993. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary F. Testerman on Oct. 4, 1995.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty C. Greer Testerman; two sons and daughters-in-law, Eddie A. and Shirley Testerman of Street, Md., and Don E. Jr. and Theresa Testerman of Pylesville, Md.; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Katherine and Dan Ross, and Anna Mae and Harry Crumrine, all of Street, Md.; four brothers and one sister-in-law, Joseph and Mabel Testerman of Forest Hill, Md., Kookie Testerman, Street, Md., James Testerman and Ramon Testerman, both of Troutdale; four grandchildren, Dawn and husband Steve McCole of Abingdon, Jason and wife Carol Testerman, Stephanie Testerman and Brad Testerman, all of Pylesville, Md.

Ruby Hearn Testerman, age 83, widow of Gaither Testerman, died Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Testerman was born in Rural Retreat to the late Robert Tye and Lola Wright Lyons. She retired from Harwood Manufacturing and was preceded in death by a son, Richard Hearn. She was also a member of the Lincoln Hill Baptist Church for 43 years.

Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Ann Hearn, Marion; two grandchildren and one grandson-in-law, Monica and Butch Glass, Burlington, N.C., and Amy Campbell, Marion; three great-grandchildren, Ty Campbell, Tanner Campbell, Kennedy Glass; two brothers, Ernest Lyons and Fred Lyons; four sisters: Frances Catron, Mae Bralley, Margaret Bray and Logene Pridemore; three stepchildren: Joyce Hamm, Carolyn Rhoten, and J.C. Viola Dunford Testerman, age 67, died Monday, Feb. 2, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Testerman attended the Church of God of Prophecy in Sugar Grove where she really loved the Lord. She was also a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, R.B. Testerman Sr., Sugar Grove; one daughter, Dorothy T. Caldwell, Chilhowie; one son, Ron B. Testerman Jr., Sugar Grove; four sisters, Ruthie Parks of Sugar Grove, Janette Parks and Ina Graham, both of Troutdale, Elsie Hutton of Chilhowie; one brother, Charles Arnold Dunford of Front Royal; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren.

William R. Testerman, age 70, of Laurel, Md., died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998 in the VA Hospital in Washington, D.C. He was a native of Smyth County and had worked as an auto mechanic.

James Irvin "Jim" Testerman Sr., age 62, died Sunday, July 9, 2000 at his home in Konnarock.

Mr. Testerman was born in Smyth County, the son of Dora Testerman of Konnarock and the late Arde Testerman. He was a U.S. Navy retired veteran, a master plumber from Arlington County Parks and Recreation and a member of AARP. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving besides his mother are a daughter, Heidi Lin Taylor of Meadowview; three sons, James Irvin Testerman Jr., Virginia Beach, Scott Testerman, Front Royal, and Brian Keith Testerman, Aberdeen, Md.; six sisters, Marie Bowers, Naomi Stanberry and JoAnn Shumate, all of Konnarock, Rena Rees of Spotsylvania, Shirley Snider of Colonial Beach, and Phyllis Latham of Abingdon; one brother, Clifton Testerman of Chilhowie; 11 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; his loving companion of 23 years, Lorene Stacey of Konnarock; her daughter, Betty J. Davis of Cartersville.

William "Bill" Stewart Testerman Sr., age 72, of Bel Air, Md., died Monday, June 5, 2000 in Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Md.

Mary V. Thomas, age 77, of Delta, Penn., died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999 at York Hospital in York, Penn.

Mrs. Thomas was the widow of Roy L. Thomas. She was born in Delta, Penn., on July 28, 1921, the daughter of the late Henry A. and Callie (Auble) Poff. She resided in the area most of her life and moved to Marion over 25 years ago. She returned to Delta in 1997.

She was a member of the Delta United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and worked in the Opportunity Shop. Her memberships also included the John S. Murphy Post #7163 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary in Delta, and the Delta Senior Center.

She is survived by two nieces, Phyllis L. Watkins of Delta, Penn., and Kathy J. Tomlinson of Whiteford, Md.; one sister-in-law, Louise W. Poff of Delta, Penn.; her companion, Emeleyn S. Van Hart of Delta, Penn.

Mrs. Thomas was born Feb. 6, 1916 in Saltville and has lived in Lorain since 1996, moving there from Clarksfield where she resided since 1964. She was the former minister of the Healing Waters Temple in Lorain and was also a homemaker.

Mrs. Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, James M. Thomas in 1975; a son, James L. Thomas; her parents, Frank and Callie Joiner Maiden; and three brothers, Lawrence, Ernest and Ralph.

Claude Edward Thompson, age 62, of Dublin, died Sunday, May 3, 1998 in Radford Community Hospital.

He was a native of Saltville and a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Lee Edward Thompson, age 65, died Saturday, June 5, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Thompson was a native of Smyth County and was formerly employed by Marley Mouldings for 19 years and Overnite Trucking Company for 25 years. He was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church.

Otis W. Thompson Sr., age 63, of Saltville, died Saturday, May 30, 1999.

Mr. Thompson was a son of Hattie Lou Thompson and the late Claude Thompson. He was a veteran of the Korean War.

He was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Leonard Tyler and Martha Bishop Thompson. He was a farmer and owner and operator of Thompson Coal Yard and a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Mamie Sue Tibbs, age 61, died Sunday, Dec. 14, 1997 at her home in Rural Retreat.

Mrs. Tibbs retired from the Marion Headstart Program where she worked as a teacher for 17 years. She graduated from New River Community College in 1996. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Lee Tibbs.

Mallie Repass Tibbs, age 81, died Saturday, April 1, 2000 at her home in Bastian.

Mrs. Tibbs was the daughter of the late Roger Arten Repass and Eula Kitts Repass. She was a retired U.S. Postal clerk with 23 years of service at Bastian, a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Life member of United Methodist Women, was a pianist at church since an early age and also taught piano lessons, a member of Federal Employees, Bland County Historical Society, Bland Senior Citizens, 39ers Club in Rocky Gap and Bastian Union Church Ladies Club.

She was preceded in death by her first husband James L. Burke and her second husband, Ray R. Tibbs.

She is survived by one brother and sister-in-law, Arten and Jonan Repass of Ceres; half-brother and wife, Kenneth B. and Laurita Repass of Marion; half-sister and husband, Frieda R. and Daniel Hanshew of Ceres; several nieces and nephews.

Hendrik H. Tielman, age 72, died Monday, March 31, 1997 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.

He was a Dutch citizen, born and raised in The Netherlands East Indies, now Indonesia.

He survived the Japanese occupation during World War II lived in Holland after the war and immigrated to the United States in 1960.

He retired from Washington Adventist Hospital, Takoma Park, Md., as a respiratory therapist and moved to Marion.

Survivors include his wife, Dora E. Tielman, Takoma Park, Md.; one son, John A. Tielman, Severn, Md.; one daughter, Anna Maria Tielman, Takoma Park, Md.; one brother, Frederik J. Tielman, Groesbeek, Brabant, The Netherlands; one sister, Anna C. Devlin, Rich Valley; one grandson, Emil T. Tielman; one brother-in-law, Robert Devlin, Rich Valley.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, in the Knollkreg Mausoleum, Abingdon, with the Rev. Robert Parrish officiating. Entombment followed. Don Edward Tilson, age 60, died Monday, Aug. 17, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Tilson was a native of Marion and was retired from the State Hospital in Marion. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur M. and Nellie P. Tilson, and one brother, Stanley C. Tilson.

Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Tilson; two daughters, Donna T. McKee, Chilhowie, and Denece W. Nowell, Williamsburg; two sons-in-law, Paul McKee and Oscar G. Nowell; two brothers, Walter V. James Monroe Tilson, age 84, died Friday, Feb. 20, 1998 at his home in Marion.

A lifelong resident of Smyth County, he was a member of the Rowland Creek Brethren Church. He worked with the CCC Camp at Hungry Mother Park and retired from the Virginia State Highway Department.

Mr. Tilson was preceded in death by his wife, Leona Parsons Tilson.

Survivors include three daughters, Annie Mae Osborne, Ethel Testerman, and Josephine Cox, all of Marion; three sisters, Sadie Daily, West Point, Ky., Mattie Parsons and Callie Quesenberry, both of Marion; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Rowland Creek Brethren Church with the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Goldie Copenhaver Tilson, age 86, died Friday, June 20, 1997 at the Wellmont House in Bristol, Tenn. She was a native of Washington County who had lived in Smyth County for the past 23 years. She was a member of Rock Springs Presbyterian Church.

She was the widow of Steward B. Copenhaver Sr., and James R. Tilson. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Neese Sr., and three brothers, Everett Neese, Noel Neese and Carl Neese.

Survivors include two sons, Steward B. Copenhaver Jr., and Ernest E. Copenhaver Sr., both of Meadowview; two daughters, Eula C. Roe, Meadowview and Louise "Tiny" C. Gray, Marion; one daughter-in-law, Alberta M. Copenhaver; one son-in-law, John M. Gray Sr.; three brothers, Oscar Neese and Bernard Neese, both of Abingdon, and Arthur B. Walter Vernon Tilson, age 66, died Sunday, March 14, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Tilson was a native of Smyth County where he had lived most of his life. He was retired from Brunswick with 37 years of service and was a member of the Faith Missionary Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Don and Stanley Tilson.

Survivors include his wife, Golda Tilson; one son, Arthur Tilson, Winchester; two daughters, Linda Crockett, Bristol, and Christine Tilson, Marion; three stepsons, Bill Hollandsworth and Frank Hollandsworth, both of Atkins, and John Hollandsworth, Marion; one brother, Bill Tilson, Hampton; three grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Billy M. Tolliver, age 71, of Troutdale, died Friday, May 29, 1998 at Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax. He was born July 16, 1926 in West Virginia to Robert Lee and Lillie Tolliver.

Blaine Tolliver, age 86, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 1999 at his home in Damascus.

Mr. Tolliver was a native of Green Cove and had lived in Damascus for the past 10 years. While living in Green Cove, he was a member of the Green Cove Baptist Church where he was the choir director and an adult Sunday school teacher for many years.

He lived in Duo, W.Va., where he retired from the coal mines and was a member of the UMWA. He also drove a school bus for eight years for the Washington County Virginia school system.

While residing in Damascus, Mr. Tolliver was a member of the First Baptist Church and a member of the Damascus Senior Citizens.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Ashley Tolliver; by his parents, Wiley and Lockie Tolliver; one sister, Carrie Bonnick; and one brother, Wayne Tolliver.

She was born in Rural Retreat, Virginia, was a 1922 graduate of Elizabeth College in Salem, VA and taught political science at the Ivanhoe High School. In Springfield she attended Bethesda Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a member of its Lutheran Church Women (LCW), a member of the Couples Club at Union Church of Springfield. She was also a member of Corinth Lutheran Church of Rural Retreat. She was the widow of Arthur J. Topham, Sr. and was preceded in death by a son, Author J. Topham, Jr. and a daughter Isabelle Ann Elsner. She is survived by: Daughter Helen "Betty" Etter, of Springfield, MA; six grandchildren: Susan Woods, Arthur Etter, Cynthia Elsner, Kenneth Elsner, Thomas Elsner and David Etter. Four great- grandchildren: Jennifer Woods, Katie Woods, Michelle Elsner and Benjamin Etter.

He was the son of the late William Marshall Treadway, III and Cora Whitmore Tredway of Chatham, Va. Rev. Tredway was ordained in the Presbyterian Church (USA) in June 1966. He served churches in the Wilmington, Appamattox, Albemarle, and New Hope presbyteries. He retired from the ministry in 1982. Rev. Tredway is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William Marshall "Buck" Tredway, V and Kirsten Hentz Tredway of Mebane, and a grandson, William Marshall Tredway VI, also of Mebane, along with a multitude of nieces, nephews and life-long friends. He was preceded in death on February 16, 1997, by his wife, Freddie Sue Sexton Tredway, of Sparta, N.C. Rev. Tredway was the last living member of a family of five siblings; Marjorie Cunningham Tredway Edmundson of Richmond, Va., Alice Rebecca Tredway Overbey of Chatham, Va., Robinet Whitmore Tredway of Richmond, Va., and Fredrich Milton Tredway of Richmond, Va. Visitation will be at Grandview Funeral Home, Grandview Drive, in Sparta, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, June 26. Funeral services will be held at the Sparta Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday, June 27, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the New Haven Church of the Brethren in Twin Oaks. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either the Alzheimer's Association or The Hospice League of Alamance-Caswell (Burlington, NC).

Vernie William "Bill" Trent, age 75, of Damascus, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999 in Abingdon Manor Home for the Aged in Abingdon.

Mr. Trent was a lifelong resident of Damascus and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include four sisters, Laura "Polly" Trent of Meadowview, Mattie Heath of Glade Spring, Rebecca Riffey of Mountain City, Tenn., and Wilma Jean Sturgill of Damascus; one brother, Jim Trent of Meadowview; several nieces and nephews.

Nancy Virginia Shaver Trent, age 76, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Trent was a native of Grayson County and was a loving wife and mother. She was the daughter of the late Maston Cleve and Pearl Ruth Shaver of Bridle Creek.

She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Fred Shaver, Joe Shaver, and M.C. Shaver, and one sister, Rose Shaver.

Survivors include her husband, Scott Trent Sr.; one son, Scott Trent Jr., Columbia, S.C.; one daughter, Nancy Linda Purkey, Atkins; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence David Shaver and Gladys, Marion, and Robert Dale Shaver and Ruth, Bridle Creek; one sister, Ethel Deatrich, Baltimore, Md.; one granddaughter, Pia Denise Childers and husband Brian, Marion; great-grandson, Bryan Michael Wade, Atkins; sisters-in-law, Edna Trent Patton Smith, Independence, and Irene Shaver, Grayson County; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Rev. Cabel W. Trent and Doris; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Ina Mae Atwell Trimmer, age 78, Marion, formerly of Richmond, died Monday, Nov. 2, 1998 at the Smyth County Community Hospital. She was retired from A.T. Massey Coal Company and was a member of the Branches Baptist Church in Richmond.

Mrs. Trimmer was the daughter of the late Sarah and Lee Atwell of Ceres. She was preceded in death by a sister, Elsie Atwell Jackson and four brothers: Ralph, Lewis, Leon and Richard Atwell.

She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Lewis S. Trimmer, Marion; two sisters, Helen Burroughs, Savannah, Ga., and Sue Hopkins, Virginia Beach; six nieces; six nephews; 11 great-nieces; five great-nephews; five great- great-nieces; and five great-great-nephews; three sisters-in-law, Ann Atwell, Attie Atwell, and Dorothy Rasnick; a special aunt, Pearl Cassell.

Funeral services were conducted at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jeff Calahan officiating. Graveside committal service will be conducted at 11 a.m. today, Nov. 4, in Zion Cemetery.

Charles H. Trivett, age 77, died Sunday, May 11, 1997 in Damascus.

He was a life-long resident of Damascus and was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, World War II. He was a former council member in the town of Damascus and was supporter of the Appalachian Trail Conference. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Trivett; two sisters, Hazel Cornett and Lou Brewer, both of Damascus; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 14, at Johnson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. R. J. Cullop officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Memorial Park.

Mary Ella Snyder Trivette, 90, was remembered at funeral services held Jan. 30 at Zionville Baptist Church. Rev. Carl Johnson officiated. Burial followed in the Zionville Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Trivette was born in the Tamarack community of Watauga County to the late Stillman and Lula Thomas Snyder. She was a homemaker and a member of Zionville Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Clayton Trivette; three grandchildren; one sister, Lizzie Cook; and two brothers, Charlie Snyder and Earl Snyder.

She is survived by two daughters, Cora Leigh Oliver and husband, Robert, and Pauline Roark and husband, Joe, all of Creston; two sons, George Trivette and wife, Ann, Zionville, and Bert Trivette and wife, Janette, Mountain City, Tenn.; three sisters, Cleo Baird, Johnson City, Tenn., Josephine Snyder, Mountain City, Tenn. and Edna Haga and husband, Bud, Bristol, Tenn.; one brother, John Snyder, Mountain City, Tenn.; 15 grandchildren and 25 loving great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Rev. William "Bill" E. Trivette, 76, was remembered at funeral services held April 8 at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Clyde Campbell, Rev. Gary Norris and Rev. David Moss officiated. Graveside services and interment was held April 9 at Reece Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Eddie Cross, Robert Trivette, Jamie Trivette, Gary McElyea, Jack Sutherland and Carroll Sutherland. Honorary pallbearers were Joel Icenhour, Milburn Icenhour, Harold Maze, Joe Sutherland and Charles Pack.

Rev. Trivette, a native of Ashe County, was a son of the late Rev. Roscoe and Lillie Michael Trivette. He had pastored for 30 years and was a former employee of Sears for more than 18 years.

He is survived by his wife, Helen S. Trivette, Damascus, Va.; two sons, Earl Trivette, Damascus, Va., and James Trivette, Scottsboro, Ala.; two sisters, Sue Eller and Lettie Ruth Seaver, both of West Jefferson; six grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

William "Bill" F. Troxell Jr., age 63, of Gastonia, N.C., died Monday, May 29, 2000 in Rehabilitation & Health Center of Gastonia.

Mr. Troxell was born Sept. 1, 1936 in Smyth County. He was an employee of Lowe's Home Improvement in Gastonia, N.C., and was former owner of Singer Sewing Center in Charlotte, N.C. He was a veteran of the Air Force and attended West Cramerton Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William F. Sr. and Ora Martin Troxell, and his first wife, Margaret H. Troxell.

Surviving are his wife, Diana Moore Troxell of Gastonia; sons, William F. III and wife Gwen Troxell of Charlotte, N.C., and John Berry Troxell of Charlotte, N.C., and fianc‚‚e Lynne Lee of Shelby, N.C.; one sister, Nancy Goodpasture, Marion; nephew and wife, Keith and Tina Goodpasture of Greensboro, N.C.; two grandchildren, Ben and Josh Troxell of Charlotte, N.C.; one step-grandson, Garrett Lowery of Gastonia, N.C.

Hazel Marie Guinn Tuell, age 51, died Thursday, Oct. 9, 1997 at her home in Meadowview.

Survivors include two sons, Lee Tuell, Meadowview, and Gene Tuell, Saltville; her mother, Gracie Guinn, Abingdon; four brothers, Roy Guinn and Bo Guinn, both of Abingdon, Robert Guinn, Washington D.C., and Gene Guinn, New Market; one sister, Mary Jacobs, Abingdon; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Tuggle

Former Saltville Town Council member Lewis Henry Tuggle Jr., 74, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999 at his home in Saltville. Tuggle was an active member of the Madam Russell United Methodist Church. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served with Co. B of the 142nd Infantry, 36th Division and was a former prisoner of war.

Tuggle graduated from Virginia Tech in 1951 as a Civil Engineer and held a license as a Professional Engineer. He retired from Olin Corporation with 20 years' service, much of this time as the engineer over the well field operations. He also retired from the Virginia Department of Health, Division of Water. In addition he worked as the mine manager for the Greer Lime Company in Saltville and was also a local farmer for many years.

Tuggle took an active role in civic duties, not only serving on the town council for many years, but also as the town manager for several years. He was also a former member of the Smyth County Planning Commission.

According to Saltville mayor, Frank Lewis, Tuggle's help during the period after Olin Corporation closed its Saltville works was invaluable.

"Henry served the town for several years both as a councilman and as town manager," Lewis said. "His expertise and his leadership during transfer of the Olin gift were excellent, it was invaluable. Henry was a good family man, he had a wonderful family. He will be missed."

Tuggle was a past-president of the Saltville-Rich Valley Lions Club; a member of the Saltville Senior Citizens; a member of the Southwest Virginia Chapter of Former POWs; and a Charter Member of the Saltville Volunteer Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife, Janie Sanders Tuggle; four sons, Lewis Tuggle, Richmond; David Tuggle, Blacksburg; Charles "Chuck" Tuggle, Saltville and Curtis "Curt" Tuggle, Chilhowie; three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Vivian) Warren, Abingdon, Mrs. Silas (Gladys) Kestner, Saltville and Mrs. Don (Charlotte) Branson, Monroe; two grandchildren, Jason Tuggle, Saltville and Kayla Tuggle, Chilhowie; two step-grandchildren, Molly O'Connor, Richmond and Michael O'Connor, Atlanta, Ga.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 9, at the D. R. Henderson Funeral Home. The Rev. Scott Robertson-Gouge will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mount Rose Cemetery.

Tuggle

Emory A. Tuggle Sr., age 60, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, Aug. 28, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

He was a native of Russell County and had lived most of his life in Washington County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lem and Lou Ella Tuggle, and one sister, Rosalie Surber.

He was a member of McCall's Gap Presbyterian Church and a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Irene Tuggle; three sons, Richard Tuggle, Dwight Tuggle and Emory A. Tuggle Jr., all of Glade Spring; eight sisters, Jessie Adams, Eula McGlocklin, Lena Hess and Lola Dixon, all of Chilhowie, Elizabeth Hess, Marion, Florene Tuell, Blountville, Tenn., and Florence Bitkin, address unknown; one daughter-in- law, Ginger Tuggle; several nieces and nephews.

Alton G. "Slim: Turman, age 63, died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001 at his home in Marion.

Mr. Turman served in the U.S. Marine Corp and was a retired carpenter.

He is survived by his wife, Linda B. Turman of Marion; one daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Tyler Kidd of Richmond; two sons and daughters-in-law, Glenn and Susan Turman of Taylorsville, N.C., and Christopher and Shannon Turman of Ashburn; two grandchildren, Owen Turman and Chad Turman, both of Taylorsville, N.C.; one sister, Nancy Cannaday of Riner; two brothers, Robert Turman of Sperryville, and Joe Turman of Willis; several nieces and nephews.

Jaquelin Fitzhugh Turner, age 98, formerly of Marion, died Saturday, July 17, 1999 in Alexandria.

Miss Turner was born Feb. 9, 1901 in Williamsburg, the daughter of George and Mary Cary Bowen Turner. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Reece Turner; and her nephew, Reece Turner Jr.

She came to Marion as Director of Occupational and Recreational Therapy at the Southwest Virginia Mental Health Institute in 1955 and served in that capacity until her retirement in 1972.

She continued to live in Marion until October 1979 when she moved to Alexandria. She was an active member of Christ Episcopal Church in Marion. She is remembered by many as a compassionate neighbor, a talented artist and a good friend.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Saint Peters Church in Port Royal.

Trula G. Turner, age 77, of Abingdon, died Friday, March 12, 1999 in Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.

Mrs. Turner was a native of Dickenson County, had lived in Washington County since 1962, and was of the Baptist faith .

She was the widow of George Turner. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Mary Hay; and a sister, Phyllis Norris.

Survivors include four sisters, Elsie Wright of Ashland, Ky., Ella June Reynolds of Marion, Madeline Rowe of Glade Spring, and Willa Mae Hootman of Wolcottville, Ind.; one brother, R.C. Hay of Abingdon; four nieces and three nephews.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, March 14, at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Turner

John Albert Turner, age 81, of Marion, formerly of Blountscreek, N.C., died Saturday, May 29, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Turner was a native of Meadsville, Penn. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II. He achieved the rank of staff sergeant and was the recipient of several medals of valor. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, VFW and the American Legion. He was retired from Talon Co.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene Haylett.

Surviving are four stepsons, Alfred Haylett of Crystal Beach, N.C., Robert Haylett of Cochranton, Penn., Jack Haylett of Sharpsville, Penn., and James Haylett; five stepdaughters, Virginia Hanna of Oil City, Penn., Betty Hubert of Polk, Penn., Dorothy Jewell of Utica, Penn., Sandy Hovis of Marion, and Karen Gas of Core Point, N.C.; two brothers, Edwin Turner, Panama City Beach, Fla., and Bill Turner, Meadsville, Penn.; one sister, Marjorie Turner, Meadsville, Penn.; 30 step-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; special friends, Clarence Fisher and Joyce Bunch.

At the request of Mr. Turner, his body was cremated and ashes buried in North Carolina.
