O'Dey

Orpha E. O'Dey, age 78, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 in Chesapeake.

Mrs. O'Dey was residing in Chesapeake at the time of her death. She was the daughter of the late Elijah and Mahala Barker Blevins and was the widow of Hurley C. O'Dey.

She was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Rev. Donald W. and Brenda O'Dey, Chesapeake; three daughters, Mrs. Dewey (Merel) Barker, Virginia Beach, Mrs. Earl (Pat) Ingram and Freda Thomas, both of Chesapeake; one sister, Dorothy Dillon, Big Springs, Texas; 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at the Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Donald O'Dey officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations should be made to the Fellowship Baptist Church, 419 Glenrock Road, Norfolk VA 23502.

O'Quinn

Ira Margaret O'Quinn, age 78, of Glade Spring, died Saturday, June 10, 2000 at the Valley Health Care Center in Chilhowie.

Surviving are her husband, Cannie O'Quinn; one son, Elmer O'Quinn, Glade Spring; two daughters, Cleo Brooks, and Darlene Spencer, both of Glade Spring; three brothers, Roy Prater and Harry Prater, both of Glade Spring, and Elmer Prater, Meadowview; three sisters, Lizzie Sheppard, Saltville, Virginia Trent, Glade Spring, and Ollie Morrison, Sidney, Ohio; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held Monday, June 12, at 2 p.m. at the Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring with the Rev. J.L. DeBord officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Joycelyn Ramona O'Quinn, age 68, of Glade Spring, died Friday, March 31, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. O'Quinn was preceded in death by her husband, Fed Isaac O'Quinn.

She is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Gary Johnson, Marion, Brenda and Rodney Eller, Chilhowie, and Peggy O'Quinn, North Pole, Alaska; one son and daughter-in- law, Charles and Sue O'Quinn, Abingdon; her mother, Lena Mae Wynegar, Chilhowie; four sisters, Belle Aistrop and Mildred Kestner, both of Glade Spring, Betty Latham, Bristol, Tenn., and Margaret Harkleroad, Bristol; five brothers, James Wynegar, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bart Wynegar, Abingdon, Dan Wynegar, Clinchburg, Joe Wynegar, Conyers, Ga., and Don Wynegar, Fairfax; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 3, at 2 p.m. at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Baptist Cemetery in Glade Spring.

Anna M. O'Quinn, age 81, of Saltville, died Wednesday, July 23, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

She attended the Calvary Bible Church and was the widow of Albert O'Quinn.

Survivors include two sons, Dewey (Ken) O'Quinn, Mechanicsville, Md., and Wesley O'Quinn, Saltville; two daughters, Dorothy Buchanan, Mechanicsville, Md., and Louise Compton, Belleview, Fla.; two brothers, Claude Browning, Sidney, Ohio, and Gene Browning, Bellfountaine, Ohio; three sisters, Nan Barnes, Rockledge, Fla., Rosella Lowe, Lebanon, Ohio, and Joyce Weyhaush, Fulton, Miss.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, July 25, in D.R. Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James Robbins officiating. Burial followed in Elizabeth Cemetery.

Fed Isaac O'Quinn, age 72, of Glade Spring, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997 in the Bristol Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Glade Spring Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce W. O'Quinn, Glade Spring; three daughters, Kathy Johnson, Marion, Brenda Eller, Chilhowie, and Peggy O'Quinn, North Pole, Alaska; one son, Charles O'Quinn, Marion; five sisters: Edna Mutter, Saltville, Bonnie Puckett, Greenville, Tenn., Ethel Cross and Georgia Snead, both of Cleveland, Tenn., and Lorene Mutter, Pearisburg; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. today, Jan. 11, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Blazer and the Rev. Roger O'Quinn officiating. Mazie June O'Quinn, 53, died Tuesday, Nov. 26, 1996 at her home.

She was a member of the House of Prayer Holiness Church.

Oakes

Selma Corrine Oakes, age 66, died Thursday, June 3, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Miss Oakes was retired from Harwood with 46 years of service.

She is survived by two sisters, Alma Guynn and Beulah Heath, both of Marion; two brothers, Elmer Preston Lane and George Oakes, both of Marion; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held today, June 6, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. David Neitch officiating. Burial will follow in South Fork Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel.

Oberson

Mary Oberson, age 85, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999 at her home in Saltville.

Mrs. Oberson was a member of Saltville Baptist Church.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Roberson of Piedmont, Ala.; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, in Saltville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dan Jividen officiating. Graveside services were held Friday, Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. in Elizabeth Cemetery.

Obregon

Dr. Fausto Obregon, age 77, died Monday, May 26, 1997 in the Wellmont Hospice House, Bristol, Tenn.

Dr. Obregon, General Surgeon, was born in Mexico City, Mexico. He lived in Los Angeles, Calif., for about five years where he attended primary school. He then returned to Mexico City where he attended high school, college and medical school.

After medical school and his internship in Mexico City, he practiced medicine and surgery in Chiapas, Mexico for three years. He then came to the United States where he took part in a rotary internship in New York City for one year as well as a residency in general surgery for four years. This residency included anesthesia training. Once more he returned to Mexico City, practicing medicine, general surgery and anesthesia for a period of two years.

In 1958, Dr. Obregon returned to the United States, specifically to Roanoke at the Lewis Gale Hospital where he performed Emergency Care Anesthesia for a period of one year. In 1960, he moved to Marion and engaged in a general practice as well as obstetrics and general surgery at Smyth County Community Hospital until 1974. Dr. Obregon moved to Mountain City, Tenn., in 1974 where he practiced general surgery until his retirement in 1988.

Dr. Obregon was preceded in death by a son, Ernie Obregon.

He is survived by his wife, Libby Obregon of Marion; three daughters, Mary Woodlief of Richmond, Rosa Diring of Norfolk, and Dalia Obregon of Mouth of Wilson; one son, Fausto Obregon Jr., Marion; six grandchildren, Christopher Long, Michael Woodlief, Veronica Scott, Susan Woodlief, Mattie Obregon and Maya Diring; two great-grandchildren, Chelsea Long and Charlie Long; a special niece, Jennifer Renee Fishel.

Funeral services were held Friday, May 30, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with Father Bob Krenick and Rev. Mr. Harry Hall officiating. Burial followed in Rose Lawn Cemetery. Dempsey Brown Odham Sr., age 65, died Thursday, Feb. 6, 1997 in Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport, Tenn.

Mr. Odham was a retired farmer and a lifelong resident of Smyth County. He was a member of the Greenwood United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anna Laura Odham; three children, William C. Odham, Marion R. Odham, and Anita L. Odham; one brother, John P. Odham.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Odham; four sons, Dempsey B. Odham Jr., John Michael Odham, Ralph Preston Odham, all of Marion, and James Robert Odham and wife Mary, Castlewood; one daughter, Karen Buchanan, Marion; one brother, Bill Odham, Marion; eight grandchildren: W.C. Odham, Bryan Odham, Desiera Odham, Megan Buchanan, Seth Guyer, Jennifer Guyer, James Albert Utley, and Joseph Yeary; one adopted granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann Odham.

Carol Reedy Odham, age 61, died Monday, June 5, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Odham retired from K-mart with 18 years of service. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph Reedy and Robert Earl Reedy, and her parents, Jennie and Claude Reedy.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Doctor Brown Odham of Marion; four daughters and one son-in-law, Carolyn Sue Odham, Cynthia Dawn Odham, Kimberly Ann and Eric Huffman, all of Marion, and Claudette Renai Odham of Rural Retreat; six grandchildren, Michael Todd Odham, Megan Colette Huffman, Dakota Austin Huffman, Sabrina Michaela Huffman and Ariel Hope Huffman, all of Marion, and Morgan Nicole Odham of Rural Retreat; one step-grandchild, Chris Anderson of Flatridge; four sisters and one brother-in-law, Mary Ross of Troutdale, Edna Reedy of Marion, Ruby Ore of Lynchburg, and Fannie and Avery Greer of Sugar Grove; two brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Helen Reedy of Lynchburg, and Roy and Ruth Reedy of Roanoke; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.

CAROLINE JEAN ANDERSON OGLE, age 60, of Rural Hall, North Carolina, formerly of Austinville, Virginia, died Sunday, December 31, 2000 in the Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. She was born in New York, the daughter of the late Rudolph and Willie Mae Funk Anderson and was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Anderson. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by: her husband - Robert "Bobby" Ogle; a daughter - Ann Ogle of Rural Hall, NC; a son and daughter-in-law - Scot and Anita Ogle of Clemmons, NC; two grandchildren - Meredith Glenn and Bryan Ogle; two sisters and brothers-in-law - Elizabeth and Nathan "Tuck" Lephew of Austinville, VA, Sandra and Robert Carter of Virginia Beach, VA; two brothers and sisters-in-law - Alfred and Virginia Anderson of Austinville, Rudy and Sue Anderson of Roanoke, VA; mother-in-law - Ruth Dean Ogle of Austinville, VA; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews also survive.

Ruth D. Olinger, age 70, of Saltville, died Sunday, Aug. 22, 1999 in Grace Health Care in Abingdon.

Mrs. Olinger was the widow of Paul E. Olinger and a member of the Chilhowie Pentecostal Holiness Church.

Surviving are three sons, Kenny Olinger of Abingdon, and Ernie Olinger and Arthur "Nook" Olinger, both of Chilhowie; five sisters, Rebecca Kell, Betty Weaver and Mary Smith, all of Chilhowie, and Nancy Moore and Dorothy Toliver, both of Meadowview; one brother, Bill Bise of Chilhowie; six grandchildren, Brian, Shannon, Terry Don, Scott and Shane Olinger, and Kim Stevens; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Stevens, Brianna Olinger, Autumn Olinger and Erin Olinger; several nieces and nephews; three daughters-in-law, Lynn, Brenda and Karen Olinger.

Carrie Virginia Olinger, age 92, died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was a member of Broadford Church of God and was the widow of John Henry Olinger. She was preceded in death by her parents, Will and Fannie Furguson; and a grandson, Charlie Olinger.

Survivors include four sons, Charles H. Olinger, Saltville, John W. Olinger, Chilhowie, Donald E. Olinger, Marshville, Mass., and C.S.M. Ret. Robert D. James Wingo Olinger, age 82, of Saltville, died Saturday, May 22, 1999 at the Grayson Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Independence.

Mr. Olinger was preceded in death by his parents, Mose and Lottie Olinger; two sisters, Louise DeBord and Mabel Davidson, and a brother Graham Olinger.

Surviving are two sisters, Susie Haynes, Saltville, and Katherine Hawthorne, Bristol, Tenn.; two half sisters, Mary Warren, Blountville, Tenn., and Dot Harrison, Carrollaton, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted Monday, May 24, at 11 a.m. at the Mt. View Cemetery in Bristol with the Rev. Vernon Olinger officiating.

Mrs. Oliver is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Sue Greer, Kernersville; a grandson, Gary Greer, Millers Creek; a granddaughter and her husband, Lisa Greer Eller and Rodney, Millers Creek; a great-granddaughter, Lindsay Eller, Millers Creek; a sister, Ina Mae Oliver, Creston; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Ned and Beulah Oliver, Creston, and Fred Oliver, Creston; and several nieces and nephews.

Michelle Renee Olson, age 23, of Chilhowie, died Monday, Feb. 17, 1997.

She is survived by her parents, Henry E. and Margaret Osborne Olson, Hulls Cove, Maine; her twin brother, Michael E. Olson, Grand Junction, Colo., and another brother, Scott Olson, Fredricksburg.

The body will be cremated. Memorial services will be held at a later date in Hulls Cove, Maine.

Okie Evans Orme, age 85, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997 at her home in Marion.

She is survived by four daughters: Lorena Miller of Ennice, N.C., Mary Virginia Bockelman of Glendale, Ariz., Katherine Doane of Ceres, and Bessie Tilson of Marion; six sons: Thomas Evans of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Douglas Evans of Saltville; Sammy Evans and Otis Evans, both of Marion; Arnold Evans and Marvin Evans, both of Rich Valley; 30 grandchildren, 43 great- grandchildren.

Kennett Eugene Orr, age 74, of Catawba, died Thursday, Jan. 9, 1997 at his home.

He was born April 26, 1922 in Rich Valley. He and his wife have been residents of Catawba Valley since 1959. He was a charter member of the Catawba Ruritan Club.

Mr. Orr had been involved with the Boy Scouts for many years and earned awards such as the Silver Beaver and Wood Badge. He was a lifetime member of the Catawba Volunteer Fire Department. He was a Sunday School teacher at Central United Methodist Church for 25 years. He was retired from the Roanoke County School System, where he was Assistant Principal at Northside High School for 18 years and Assistant Principal at Arnold R. Burton Vocational School for eight years.

He is survived by his wife, Leslie Ann Fringer Orr; one daughter, Kathleen L. Orr; one son and daughter-in-law, Kennett R. and Karen Givens Orr; two grandsons, Joshua Kennett Orr and Jonathan William Orr, both of Catawba; one sister, Doris Orr, Rich Valley; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Ross M. Orr Jr. and wife Sandy, Bethlehem, Penn., and Dr. William K. Orr and wife Lois, Fishersville; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 13, at 10 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church with Dr. William Davis officiating. Interment was in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Central United Methodist Church Elevator Fund in memory of Gene Orr.

Isaac Weaver Orr Jr., age 79, died Monday, June 2, 1997 at his home in Elizabethton, Tenn.
He was a native of Saltville and a member of First United Methodist Church in Elizabethton. He was preceded in death by a brother, Dr. Alva D. Orr.

He was a former chemist with North American Rayon Corporation and a retired teacher of electronics with Northeast State Technical Institute.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Sutton Orr; one sister, Mary Ellen Arnold, Chattanooga, Tenn.; one sister-in-law, Sylvia D. Orr, Port St. Lucy, Fla.; five nephews: Denton and Roger Orr, Tom Arnold, Keith and Richard Sutton; two nieces, Geri Gaynor and Brenda Cox; a goddaughter, Lisa Hendrich; special friends, James and Shirley Hughes, Weldon Stone and Grayton Riggs.

Bessie Trail Orr, age 81, widow of Lee Orr, died Tuesday, July 6, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Norma Jean Orr Roark.

She is survived by one daughter, Bessie Lee Orr; two sons and daughter-in-law, Howard Roland and Carol J. Orr of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Edward Wiley Orr; four sisters, Nannie Orr, Maggie Trail, Doris Murray and Helen Falke, all of Marion; three grandchildren; Howard Edward Orr, Jeffrey Allen Orr and Joe Roark.

Morris E. Orr Sr., age 77, of Glade Spring, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1999 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Mr. Orr was a lifelong resident of Washington County and a member of Glade Spring Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of World War II and was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Arlene Dunn Orr.

Survivors include four sons, Larry Orr, Morris E. Orr Jr., and Richard Lee Orr, all of Glade Spring, and Jack David Orr, Wytheville; four daughters, Lillian Orr Bates Philpott and Bonnie C. Bates, both of Marion, Mary Sue Gilley and Libby Owens, both of Glade Spring; one brother, Roby Lee Orr Sr., Glade Spring; three sisters, Marjorie Trent, Damascus, Maggie Bowers and Lillian Carver, both of Glade Spring; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Bessie Mae Orr, age 103, widow of Charles M. Orr, died Monday, June 28, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Orr was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Oscar Lynn Barrett and John Gordon Trail and one grandchild, John Harold Trail. She was the oldest member of the Riverside United Methodist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for many years and she was the oldest member of the Pilot Club International.

Mrs. Orr was involved in performing many duties with the Rich Valley Fair and was associated with many other organizations and fraternities.

She is survived by two daughters, Lucy Barrett and Katherine Trail, both of Marion; two sons, Walter L. Orr and wife Bobbie of Elbert, W.Va., and A. Archie Orr and wife Mabel of the Broadford Community in Saltville; 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six great-great- grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

Mr. Osborne was born to John Osborne and Rettie Roten Osborne. He was a truck driver. He served in the United States Army during World War II.

Stella Mae Woodard Osborne

Stella Mae Woodard Osborne was born on September 2, 1932 in Johnson County, TN to Frederick and Emma Mae Howard Woodard. She moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania in 1950 and shortly thereafter married Elmer D. Osborne. She died at Ware Presbyterian Home in Oxford, PA on June 25, 2000, age 67. She lived most of her adult life in Oxford, Chester Co., PA.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1984. She is survived by three daughters, Linda Acord of Nottingham, PA; Karen Brown of Oxford, PA, and Patti Weaver of Arlington, VA. Four grandchildren also survive.

Services were held June 29, 2000 at Collins Funeral Home in Oxford, PA with interment in the Oxford City Cemetery.

Archie Seymour Osborne, age 98, of Saltville, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mr. Osborne was born in Russell County on July 28, 1901, the son of the late John and Ellen Marshall Osborne. He was retired from the National Gypsum Co., at Goldbond. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lilly Hagston Osborne; a daughter, Velma O. White; and granddaughter Lisa Chiemi Osborne; two sons-in-law, Charles J. White and James A. Roberts; and a daughter-in-law, Eleanor Sessor Osborne.

Kathleen Phipps Osborne, 84, of Cox''s Chapel, died Sunday, March 18, 2001, at Alleghany Memorial Hospital, Sparta, N.C. She was the widow of Preston Osborne Jr. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Monroe Phipps. She was born Jan. 20, 1917, in Sparta, N.C., to Newton Franklin and Viola Gentry Phipps.

She was a member of Cox's Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a teacher, having taught in Grayson, Surry and Alleghany counties for 46 years.

Shirley M. Osborne, age 61, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

Mrs. Osborne was born in Montgomery County, Md., a daughter of the late Earl Benjamin and Elsie Mae Calhoun. She lived most of her life in Poolesville, Md., before moving to Glade Spring in 1976. She was of the Methodist faith and was employed with Brunswick Defense Corp. for 17 years.

Surviving are her husband, Johnnie C. Osborne; one son, Johnnie B. Mr. Overbay was born in Mill Creek to the late Zack and Nettie Blevins Overbay. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in World War II and was the recipient of several medals of valor. He was retired from the Brunswick Corporation and was of the Baptist faith.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Minnie Faye Doss and Lizzie Hicks; and four brothers, Odelle Overbay, Wiley Overbay, Bill Overbay, and Carl Miller.

Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Eller Overbay; five special friends, Emma Jean Wymer, Faye Taylor, Betty Lowe, Mavis Williams, and Mary Lou Waak; several nieces and nephews and a host of other friends.

Mr. Owens was born in Glade Spring, the son of William Joseph Owens of Glade Spring. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County. He was of the Protestant faith and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was employed with Hapco Inc. from 1961 to 1998 as a shipping supervisor.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Eric Owens.

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 12, 2001, at 1:00 p.m. at the Barnett Funeral Chapel in Wytheville with the Rev. Roger Boyer officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Mitchell Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday. Owens

Garland C. Owens, age 46, of Glade Spring, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County.

Survivors include two daughters, Melissa Sue Owens, Kentucky, and Belinda Ann Owens, Vermont; one son, Shane Garland Owens, Hampton; his parents, Carl "Mose" and Carrier Owens, Glade Spring; two brothers, Robert J. Owens, Glade Spring, and Cecil C. Owens, Chilhowie; three sisters, Connie Mae Moorefield and Wanda Owens Tuggle, both of Damascus, and Patricia A. Arnold, Chilhowie; one grandson, Johnathon Owens, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews; his beloved girlfriend, Brenda Guinn, Meadowview.

Graveside services were conducted at 4 p.m. Thursday, June 4, in the Mount Olivet Cemetery in Glade Spring with the Rev. J.L. DeBord officiating.

The Farris Funeral Service in Abingdon was in charge of arrangements.
