Kimberly Dawn Laine, age 16, of Meadowview, died Wednesday, May 21, 1997 at her home.

She attended Victory Baptist Church and was a student at Patrick Henry High School.

Survivors include her father, Charles D. Laine, Minnesota; her mother, Carolyn A. Moore, Abingdon; one brother, Travis Eugene Moore, Meadowview; two sisters, Mary Jane Thomas, Chilhowie, and Shana Ann Taylor, Abingdon; her maternal grandparents, Mary Keith and Lonnie L. Keith; five aunts and eight uncles; several cousins.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, May 23, in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Paul Price and the Rev. George Turner officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memory Gardens, Abingdon. Lambert

Mary Katherine Shupe Lambert, age 82, died Tuesday, Oct. 7, 1997 in the Francis Marion Manor.

Mrs. Lambert was born July 13, 1915 to the late James and Celia Jane Shupe in Washington County. She lived most of her life in Smyth County.

She attended the Valley View Baptist Church and was active in the Senior Citizens group in Marion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lambert; two brothers, one sister, and three nephews.

Survivors include two sisters, Sarah Gowins, Marion, and Laura Sexton, Rising Sun, Md.; five stepchildren; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Adam Love officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Cemetery.

Lambert

Gertrude Lambert, age 73, of Chilhowie, died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Miss Lambert was a resident of Ridgefield Retirement Home in Chilhowie.

She is survived by many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11 a.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with burial to follow at a later date in Round Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Lambert was born in Ashe County to Edward and Lessie Bare. She was a member of the Friendly Grove Baptist Church in West Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy James Lambert; and two grandchildren.

She is survived by four daughters, Jean Curtis, Millers Creek, Virginia Stewart, Blountville, Tenn., and Raydell Nobles and Pansy Hunt, both of Thomasville; four sons, James Lambert, Ivan Lambert and Lloyd Lambert, all of West Jefferson, and Joe Daniel Lambert, Lexington; six brothers, J.D. Ms. Alice Martha Lamert, age 78, of Chesterfield, S.C. died Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Chesterfield S.C.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Feb. 24 at 11 a.m. at Badger Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jim Greer and Rev. Ron Shumate officiated. Burial followed in the Colvard Cemetary. The family received friends from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 24 at Badger Funeral Home.

Ms. Lambert was born in Jefferson to the late George and Dora Barker Lambert. She was retired from Thomasville Furniture Co. She received an award from the National Red Cross for being the top blood donor in the country. She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Jefferson. She was preceded in death by her parents; eight brothers; and two sisters.

She is survived by three sons, Ralph Lambert of Chesterfield, S.C., Billy Lambert and John David Lambert, both of Ruby, S.C.; one brother, Avery Lambert of Eastern Shore, Md.; one sister; Mary Lee Lambert of Jefferson; and six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Trula Grady Lambert, age 99, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Friday, Feb. 21, 1997 in the Glenwood Park Village Nursing Home after an extended illness. She was the widow of Paris Harvey Lambert and was also preceded in death by a son, John Grady Lambert in 1994.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Harry E. (Mary) Danielson of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Mrs. George W. (Dottie) Kiser of Marion; two sons, Paris Harvey Lambert Jr. of Tampa, Fla., and James Ernest Lambert of Virginia Beach; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 24, at 3 p.m. at the Craven-Shires Funeral Home in Bluefield, W.Va., with the Rev. Neville Mozingo officiating. Joseph Edward Jackson Lamie, age 67, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

He was a lifelong resident of Rich Valley and a retired employee of U.S. Gypsum with 27 years of service.

Mabel Lamie, age 87, of Saltville, died Friday, June 9, 2000 at the Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Lamie and her husband were the owners and operators of Lamie Grocery in Rich Valley.

Mrs. Lamie was preceded in death by her husband, Sherman Garfield Lamie; by her son, Sherman Eugene Lamie; and one sister, Mary Alice Hilt.

Surviving are two brothers, Joe Phipps, Abingdon, and Edward Phipps, Saltville; one sister, Nina Belle Holmes, Bristol; two grandchildren, Sherree Lamie Hartwig and Sherman Charlies Lamie; several nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and was a retired maintenance worker with the Smyth County School System.

Guy Kim Landreth, 91, of Fries, died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at his home.

He was born Feb. 9, 1910, in Grayson County to William E. and Ida Boyles Landreth.

Louise Johnson Lane, died Monday, June 8, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Lane was a member of the Marion Baptist Church and was employed by Superior Mills for 34 years.

L.D. Largen Jr., 79, of Hillsville, died Monday, March 19, 2001 at Twin County Regional Hospital.

Largen was a member of Gladesboro Lutheran Church and a retired automobile dealer.

He was preceded in death by a son, Robert J. Largen.

Survivors include his wife, Edna Banks Largen of the home; a daughter, Betty Largen Huff of Mount Airy, N.C.; a son, William D. Largen of Floyd; a brother, Dr. Thomas L. Andrew Jackson Larimer, age 82, of Chilhowie, formerly of Tazewell, died Sunday, May 17, 1998 in Valley Health Care Center. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

He is survived by his wife, Bertha Rupard Larimer, Chilhowie; two sons, Charles Jackson Larimer, Asheville, N.C., and Edward Lee Larimer, Chilhowie; two sisters, Imogene Dunn, Deland, Fla., and Nancy Saylor, West Palm Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Derek Lee Larimer and Thomas Murray Larimer, both of Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Laurance was born in Ashe County to Joseph Tatum Laurance and Artie Walters Laurance. He was a foreman in a furniture industry.
He is survived by his wife, Eula Greene Laurance; a son, Joseph Laurance, Fleetwood; three daughters, Reba Williams, Colorado Springs, Colo., Lucy Brown, Fleetwood and Rebecca West, Virginia Beach, Va.; and eight granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lawrence was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church and was a graduate of Shenandoah University.

She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late George and Britney Leedy Cregger. Mrs. Lawrence was preceded in death by her husband Herbert Lawrence. Donald Wayne Lawrence, age 61, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of Chilhowie, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 1999.

Mr. Lawrence served in the U.S. Navy for three years. After retiring from the state of Virginia, he moved his residence to St. Augustine.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bolden P. Lawrence and his sister, Shirley JoAnn Bartley.

Raymond Willard Leath, 80, of Galax, died Sunday, April 30, 2000, at his home.

He was born March 18, 1920, in Grayson County to Clarence Leath and Eva Beckner Leath.

Grace Miller Doud Lee, age 79, of Oxford, Miss., died Sunday, Aug. 3, 1997 in Baptist Memorial Hospital, Oxford, Miss. She was preceded in death by a son, Gregory C. Lee, who was a Captain in the U.S. Marines; and a brother, Owen Doud, of Hazleton, Penn.

Mrs. Lee was the retired Food Service Manager at Casey Elementary School in Jackson, Miss., where she lived before moving to Oxford in 1986. She was the widow of Charles Chester Lee and a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Oxford. She was Past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 72 in Marion. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Pharmacist Mate Third Class.

Everette W. Leedy, age 83, of Bluefield, W.Va., died Sunday, Dec. 28, 1997.

He was born in Bluefield, W.Va., the son of the late Ernest Montgomery and Merry T. Foglesong Leedy. He was retired from the West Virginia Armature Co. and attended the First Baptist Church in Bluefield, W.Va. He was preceded in death by one brother, Guy McGhee Leedy.

William Steward "Sonny" Lefler, age 68, died Friday, July 16, 1999 at his home in Marion.

Mr. Lefler was a native of Smyth County and was employed with the Town of Marion for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served as a paratrooper in the special division airborne unit during the Korean War.

Survivors include three sisters: Mildred Harris, Virginia Firestone, and Betty Davidson, all of Marion; three brothers, Charles H. Lefler and Willis Ray Lefler, both of Marion, and Lewis Lefler of Chilhowie; several nieces and nephews including a special niece, Durell Lefler of Marion.

Walter Thomas Legard, age 67, died Saturday, May 8, 1999 at his home in Bassett.

Mr. Legard was born April 14, 1932 in Smyth County to the late Edwin Neel Legard and Louise Johnston Legard. He was a graduate of Marion High School and National Business College, Roanoke. He was a member of Pocahontas Bassett Baptist Church and the church choir. He was a Sunday School director and vice chairman of the Board of Deacons.

Mr. Legard was a noted knife collector and a barbecue expert, having cooked for many civic organizations. He was a former Sergeant at Arms of the Virginia State Jaycees, and State Vice-President of the Virginia Jaycees.

Surviving are his wife, Kate Noonkester Legard, of the home; two daughters, Susan Legard Maxey of Walnut Cove, N.C., and Kathy Legard of Collinsville; two brothers, Samuel Preston Legard of Stuart, Fla., and Edwin N. Legard Jr. of Roanoke; two grandchildren, Sarah Robin Maxey and Gabriel Dale Maxey, both of Walnut Cove, N.C.

Marie Henderlite Leonard, age 73, widow of Frank Leonard, died Friday, Feb. 6, 1998 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Leonard was born in Roanoke and had lived most of her life in Atkins. She was a member of the Church of God in Atkins and had retired from Harwood.

She was a very loving mother and grandmother.

Georgia Kansas Levitt, age 87, died Monday, May 19, 1997 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

Mrs. Levitt was born Oct. 28, 1909. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rovie Levitt, and a son, William "Bill" Levitt.

She is survived by three daughters, Bessie Johnson, Mattie "Sis" Haga, both of Marion, and Elvie Vernon of Atkins; one son, Kermit Levitt of Marion; three sisters, Louise Guy, Marie Puckett, and Elsie Powers, all of Tazewell; two brothers, Thomas Asbury and June Asbury, both of Tazewell; 15 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; a special friend, Debbie Ferguson.

Marsh M. Lewis, age 86, of Saltville, died Thursday, Feb. 5, 1998 in Smyth County Community Hospital.

He was a native of Rich Valley, having lived there for 64 years, was born in Harlan, Ky., graduated from Pennington Gap High School and Virginia Tech. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Cam J. Lewis.

He taught vocational agriculture at Rich Valley High School for 33 years, the highest degree of the Future Farmers of America was bestowed upon him.

He was a member of Rich Valley Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years, was a member of Masonic Lodge, Saltville, organized Rich Valley Farmers Club and was active in alumni activities of Virginia Tech and the Hokie Club.

He served as secretary of Rich Valley Fair and Horse Shows and for many years was a member on the Board of Directors of Smyth County Community Hospital and was a member of the Saltville Kiwanis Club.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth (Parker) Lewis; two daughters, Elizabeth "Bette" Lewis Everson, Columbus, Ohio, and Lumberton, N.C., and Robin Lewis Beckett, Saltville; one brother, James P. Lewis, Lebanon; two sisters, Virginia Lewis Sullivan, Pennington Gap, and Henrietta Lewis Logan, Christiansburg; five grandsons, Chris Chambers, Columbus, Ohio, Eric Chambers, Philadelphia, Penn., Malcolm Beckett, T.J. Beckett and Steven Beckett, all of Saltville; one great-grandson, Lewis Chambers, Columbus, Ohio..

Lura "Opal" Lewis, age 73, passed away Saturday, Feb. 17, 2001 at the University of Maryland Medical Center due to complications from leukemia.

Mrs. Lewis was born in Milligan College, Tenn., and lived most of her life in Chilhowie. She was the oldest member of the Chilhowie Christian Church and had been a member for the longest period of time.

Mrs. Lindsey was very active in various civic and social organizations in the Anderson and Clemson area. She was a mathematics instructor at Greenville Technical College with 27 years of service.

Marie Smith Linkous, age 78, died Thursday, April 30, 1998 in North Side Hospital in Johnson City, Tenn. Mrs. Linkous was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and past president of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Smith.
She was an active member of the Smyth County Mental Health Association; an active volunteer and Exceptional Volunteer Award Recipient of the American Red Cross, and an active member of the Smyth County Unit of the American Cancer Society. She was past president of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and past president of the Marion Garden Club.

Mrs. Linkous received the 1990 Governor's Award for Volunteering Excellence.

Harry Abraham Linkous Jr., age 84, died Tuesday, March 14, 2000 at his home in Marion.

Mr. Linkous was born in Belspring, the son of Harry and Nell Woods Linkous. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Mr. Linkous served in the United States Army. He was Assistant Superintendent of Production and Maintenance for Warner Robins Air Force Base for 22 years before retiring to Marion. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Macon Masonic Lodge No. 5.

Mr. Linkous was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Smith Linkous; and a sister, Margaret Northea McClun.

Myrtle Litton, age 82, of Glade Spring, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.

She was a lifelong resident of Washington County, a member of Joy Baptist Church in Chilhowie, and was the widow of Howard Litton.

Survivors include one son, Jim Litton, Glade Spring; two daughters, Bonnie L. Johnson, Marion, and Anna Marie McClure, Meadowview; five brothers, John Seymore and Fred Seymore, both of Abingdon, Tom Seymore, Glade Spring, J.F. Fred James Litz, age 70, died Thursday, June 4, 1998 at his home in Rural Retreat. He was the son of the late French Soloman and Ruth Inez Myers Litz.

Mr. Litz was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Rural Retreat and was a retired employee of Brunswick Inc., Marion.

Harmon W. "Jack" Logan, age 84, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon. He was a lifelong resident of Washington County.

Mr. Logan was a former employee of the Glade Spring Vance Co. for about 20 years and had been a Grade A Dairy farmer for 30 years. He was a member of the Byars Cobbs United Methodist Church and had served as an officer in the Men's Bible Class.

He was a charter member of the Glade Spring Lions Club while it was in Glade Spring, a charter member of the Glade Spring Fire Department and a member of the Interstate Bowl.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Grubb Logan; one niece, Sue Eastman King, Richmond; two nephews, Curtis Logan, Pulaski, and Cecil Logan, near Washington D.C.

Alvin Berkley Lomans Sr., age 62, of Chilhowie, died Saturday, July 15, 2000 in Bristol Regional Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, Tenn.

Mr. Lomans was a member of First Baptist Church of Chilhowie where he served as a trustee. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp during the Korean War and retired after 31 years of service with Greever's Clinic in Chilhowie as maintenance technician.

Harold Long, age 78, died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997 in the Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News.

Mr. Long was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Keyes Long. He was retired from the Tenneco Deep Sea Ventures in Glouster with 20 years of service. He was a member of the West Hampton Baptist Church, and a member of the Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, St. Tammany Lodge #5. He was also a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Survivors include one son, Michael P. Long, Williamsburg; one daughter, Roxi Lawrence, Salem, Ore.; six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

Sally Louise Rhudy Long of Wytheville died Saturday, Jan. 31, 1998 in Wythe County Community Hospital.

She was born in the early 1900s in Speedwell, a daughter of the late Dr. Walter Weston Rhudy and Maude Porter Rhudy. She received her BA degree from Indiana University with honors in Math and French and her masters degree from the University of Virginia. She was a member of Delta Delta Delta and Delta-Kappa Gamma Sororities. She was a member of Wilderness Road Chapter, D.A.R., was a Pink Lady at Wythe County Community Hospital for 20 years and was a patroness of many charities.

Mrs. Long was a member of the Wytheville Presbyterian Church, a retired math teacher and guidance counselor at Fort Chiswell High School and was preceded in death by her husband, Carl H. Long, and a brother, Dr. William Porter Rhudy.
She is survived by one daughter, Dr. Sallye Webster of New Bern, N.C.; two granddaughters, Sallye Louise Webster of Houston, Texas, and Stephanie Long Webster Reynolds of Oklahoma City, Okla.; five great-grandchildren.

Lovingood

Anne Lindsey Lovingood, age 48, of Maryville, Tenn., died Thursday, May 7, 1998 at the family home.

She was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Knoxville, and was active in the community through involvement in school organizations and as a Girl Scout leader. She served as a substitute teacher in several South Knox Elementary Schools. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Evelyn Lindsey of Marion, VA; and a sister, Mary L. Baumgardner of Charlotte, NC.

She is survived by her husband, Bert Lovingood; her children, Tip and Lindsey Lovingood of Maryville, Tenn.; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Martha and Dick Riggle of Wytheville, VA, and Sarah and Tom Etheredge of Titusville, FL; her brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Linda Lindsey of Newnan, GA and Frank and Lori Lindsey of Monroe, NC.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 9, 1998 at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 6632 Chapman Hwy., Knoxville, Tenn. with Pastor Jack Zipperer officiating. Graveside services and interment were at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the Mountain View Cemetery in Rural Retreat, VA with Pastor James Bangle officiating.

Carl Lowe, age 88, of Sunbridge Healthcare Center in Sparta, N.C., died Monday, February 14, 2000, at the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta. He is survived by a son, Bobby Lowe of Greenville, Tennessee; two sisters, Vina White and Etta Evans, both of Glade Valley, N.C.; 5 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Glade Creek Union Baptist Church, with burial in the Church Cemetery. The body will be placed in the Church 30 minutes prior to the funeral services to lie in state. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home in Sparta.

Robert Edward (Bobby) Lowery, age 64, died Monday, July 26, 1999 at his home in Saltville.
Mr. Lowery was retired from the IngersolRand Company.

Surviving are his wife, Minnie Hogston Lowery; three sons, Mike Lowery, Marion, Gene Lowery, Saltville, and Bryan Lowery, of the home; four daughters, Debbie Repass and Kathy Loupe, both of Saltville, Tammy Kestner, Crimora, and Julie Lowery, of the home; one brother, Lewis Perry Lowery, Keen Mountain; one halfbrother, Raymond Bowling, Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Jackie Deal, Sidney, Ohio and Violet Shimmel, Alexandria; nine grandchildren; one great- granddaughter; one step-granddaughter; several aunts and uncles; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, July 28, 11 a.m. at the Henderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Benny Frye, the Rev. Mike Mangrum and the Rev. Betty Royston officiating. Burial will follow at Mount Rose Cemetery.

Kermit Lewis "Doc" Lowery, age 83, died Monday, Dec. 27, 1999 at his home in Glade Spring.

Mr. Lowery was a veteran of World War II where he served in nine major battles and received three Bronze Stars. He was a member of VFW Post 1994 and DAV Post 57 in Abingdon where he served as chaplain for 10 years.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Hickey Lowery; two sons, David Lowery of Chilhowie and Jerry Lowery of Glade Spring; two stepsons, Steve Sheets of Abingdon and Eddy Sheets of Arizona; one stepdaughter-in-law, Dixie Sheets; one stepdaughter and her husband, Patty and Mike Thompson of Damascus; one brother, William "Bill" Lowery of Saltville; one grandson, Louie Lowery of Chilhowie; one great-grandson; seven step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted today, Dec. 29, at noon in Henderson Funeral Home in Saltville with the Rev. Eugene Baldwin and the Rev. Ralph T. Hubble officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery with military rites by Patton-Crosswhite Post 6975 Honor Guard.

Virginia Bledsoe Lucas, age 88, of Jonesborough, Tenn., died on Tuesday, January 11, 2000 at Johnson City Medical Center. She was born on December 25, 1911 in Wilkesboro, N.C. to William J. and Eulala B. Johnson. She was a member of DAR and attended Women's College of Greensboro. She taught piano at Oak Hill Academy, Glade Valley School, and Independence High School. She was preceded in death by husbands Duke Colvard Bledsoe Sr. and Johnny Lucas of Sparta, and brothers Walter P. Johnson of Sparta, and Bill Johnson of North Wilkesboro. She is survived by two sons, Byron Bledsoe of Marietta, Georgia, and Baxter Bledsoe of Jonesborough, Tenn; a stepson, Duke Bledsoe Jr. of Sparta; a step-daughter, Jane Davidson of Winston-Salem, N.C.; two sisters, Violet Horton of Johnson City, Tenn. and Vivian Bollin of Sparta; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Grandview Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in Sparta, Dr. Jim Pollard will officiate. Burial will follow in the Sparta Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the Funeral Home.

Luck

Harvey Luck, age 83, of Damascus, died Tuesday, June 3, 1997 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.

He was a native of Prince William County and had lived in Damascus for the past seven years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. He was owner and operator of Luck & Albrite Plumbing and was a member of the VFW in Manassas. He was of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 5, in the National Memorial Park, Falls Church, with the Rev. Gregory Loewer officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to the American Cancer Society, 167 E. Main St., Abingdon, VA 24210.

GERALDINE H. LUCK, of the Villages, Florida, formerly of Wytheville, died Saturday, November 18, 2000. she is survived by her husband - Ernest G. Luck, of the Villages, FL; three sons - Ronald L. Luck, of the Villages, FL, E. Ray Luck of Tennessee and Richard V. Luck, of North Carolina; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Ludowici

Lois J. Puckett Ludowici, age 53, died Friday, March 28, 1997 in Chilhowie.

She was a native of Clinchco, a graduate of Haysi High School and received a B.A. degree from Clinch Valley College, Wise. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Bertha Puckett; one brother, W.G. Puckett; one sister, Glenda Gaby.

She was a U.S. Marine veteran for 23 years retiring as Master Sergeant. She was a member of the Middle Branch Freewill Baptist Church in Nora.

Survivors include three brothers, Roger Puckett, Chilhowie, Freddy Puckett, Honaker, and Joseph Puckett, Clintwood; eight sisters, Sally Stanley, Clintwood, Peggy Brooks, Chilhowie, Gay Moats, Clinton, Md., Arlene Thompson, Sparta, N.C., Bonnie Runions, Hohenwald, Tenn., Rebecca Woods, Haysi, Pamela Puckett, Marion, and Johnnie Thompson, Rosedale; eight nieces; 10 nephews.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 30, in the Middle Branch Freewill Baptist Church in Nora with the Rev. Clyde Lambert and Pastor Floyd Nelson officiating. Burial was in the Lambert Family Cemetery, Middle Branch, Nora. Military graveside services were conducted by members of Marine Corps Reserves, Company L, Johnson City, Tenn., and VFW Post No. 8979, Clintwood.

Lumpkins

Anna Ruth Lumpkins, age 73, of Rockville, Md., formerly of Marion, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997.

She was a retired waitress and was preceded in death by her husband, Winston W. Lumpkins Jr.

Surviving are two daughters and son-in-law: Forrest M. Jr. and Brenda Donaldson and Debra K. Lumpkins; two sons and daughters-in-law: Winston W. III and Margaret Lumpkins, and Robert K. and Debbie Lumpkins; her grandchildren: Ward Donaldson, Kevin, Katie, Winston and August Lumpkins; two brothers, Emmett L. Catron and H. Daniel Catron.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 18, at 1:30 p.m. at Oakey's Roanoke Chapel with the Rev. Frank W. Feather officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park. The family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 p.m. and tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral Chapel.

Melvin "Jerry" Lundy, 58, of Elkton, Md., died Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at Perry Point V.A. Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 26, 1942, in Elkton, Md., to Everett J. Lundy and Ethel M. Green.

Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Harry Randolph "Joyce Lundy" of Finley, Ohio, and Mrs. James Coala "June Lundy" of Elkton, Md.

A funeral was held Thursday at Crouch Funeral Home in North East, Md., with burial in the Maryland Veterans Cemetery, Hurlock, Md.

Willa Belle Carver Lyall, 86, was remembered at funeral services held May 20 at Beaver Creek Christian Church. Minister Wayne Williams and Minister Charlie Freeman officiated. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lyall was born in Graham County to George Carver and Nora Massey Carver. She was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Clarence Gwyn Lyall.

She is survived by two sons, Garland and Russell Lyall, both of West Jefferson; a brother, Claude Bill Carver, West Jefferson; a sister, Ethel Eller, Robbinsville; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Larry Leonard Lyon, 37, of Sugar Grove, died Friday, Aug. 8, 1997 at the Smyth County Community Hospital. He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde DeSale Lyon and one brother, Conley Dean Lyon.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Cissy) Simons Lyon of Sugar Grove; one stepdaughter and son- in-law, Mandi and Will Vanhoozer of Marion; his mother, Ola Richardson Lyon of Sugar Grove; two sisters, Patricia Lyon Woods of Independence, and Connie Lyon Watson of Atkins; two brothers, T.D. Lyon of Marion, and Clyde R. (Dickie) Lyon of Sugar Grove; one very special companion, Milwaukee; 14 nieces, seven nephews, four great-nephews and eight great-nieces.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 2 p.m. at the Sugar Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Kenny Price officiating. Burial followed in the Hutton-Cox Cemetery, Sugar Grove.

Mr. Bishop Jerome Lyons, age 76 of 14428 Hwy. 18 North, Ennice, N.C., died Saturday, March 27, 1999, in the Alleghany Memorial Hospital in Sparta, N.C. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lois Jean Lyons of the home, one daughter-in-law, Wanda Crouse Lyons of Galax, Va., two grandsons and spouses, Ricky Wayne and Susan Lyons of Yadkinville, N.C., Michael Charles and Sharon Lyons of Glade Valley, N.C., two sisters, Betty Lockey of Sparta, N.C., and Mildred Lyons of Natasluga, Alabama, two step-daughters, Glenda Reece of Fincastle, Va., and Karen White of Radford, Va., four great-grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, and two step-great- grandchildren also survives. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday Morning, March 30, 1999, at 11:00 a.m. at the Grandview Memorial Chapel with burial in the Edmonds Community Cemetery.
