Irvin Harold Ihrig, age 92, died Sunday, March 23, 1997 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Ihrig was a native of Kentucky. He was a minister administrator in the Seventh Day Adventist Church from which he retired in 1970 to Florida. After retirement, he remained active in the church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served aboard the USS Tennessee.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Brown Ihrig, Appomattox; two sons, Harold I. Ihrig, Lebanon, Tenn., and Pastor Ronald E. Ihrig, Marion; one brother, Edwin M. Ihrig, Roanoke; one sister, Doris Iviatte, Washugal, Wash.; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildrenen, three great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 30, at 2 p.m. in the Appomattox Seventh Day Adventist Church with Derek Mustow, Herbert Broeckle and Orville Driscall officiating. Interment will be held later in Melbourne, Fla.

Ingo
Herbert Wayne "Hub" Ingo, age 83, of Ivanhoe, and a recent resident of Wytheville Manor, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
Mr. Ingo was born in Wythe County, the son of the late Christopher Columbus Ingo and Florence Miller Ingo and was preceded in death by a sister, Della Alley, five brothers, Harold, Pat, Thomas, Ray and Jay Ingo.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II where he participated in Operation Overlord, D-Day 1945 and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a member of IVA Lodge #173, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, the Rebekah Lodge, Encampment, Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #235, A.F. & A.M., the Roanoke Scottish Rite and Kazim Temple.
Surviving are one sister, Rivers Ingo of Wytheville Manor; two brothers, Glen Ingo of Ivanhoe, and Clyde Ingo of Marion; a special nephew, Barry Ingo of England; numerous other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at the Reese Funeral Chapel with Mr. Jack King officiating. Interment followed in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ivanhoe. American Legion Post #9 conducted graveside military honors.
IVA Lodge #173, I.O.O.F. and the Ivanhoe Masonic Lodge #235 A.F. & A. M., conducted memorial services Sunday night, Jan. 23.

Elizabeth Patterson Ingram, age 54, of Meadowview, died Friday, Jan. 30, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon.
She was a native of Saltville, had lived in Smyth and Washington counties and had lived in Meadowview for the past 19 years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church.
Survivors include one son, David L. Coffey, Aberdeen, N.C.; one brother, James Patterson, Emas, Penn.; five sisters, Lillian Anderson, Meadowview, Iris Cloyd and Mary Etta DeLapp, both of Bristol, Patricia Goins, Hampton, and Sue Bradley, Glade Spring; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 2, in Farris Funeral Chapel with the Rev. John Shelton and the Rev. James Reddick officiating. Burial was in Seals-Brown Cemetery.

Inscor
Emma Marie Inscor, age 88, of Darlington, Md., died Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000 at Mariner Health of Bel Air in Bel Air, Md.
Mrs. Inscor was born on June 8, 1911 in Independence, the daughter of the late Harvey and Carrie Maude (Phipps) Rutherford. She moved to Harford County from Virginia in 1956. She worked at Walter''s Dairy Farm at Forest Hill, Md., from 1956 to 1964 and then at several other local farms. From 1972 to 1974 she worked at the Ballpark Diner, Street, Md. She enjoyed gardening.
Mrs. Inscor was preceded in death by her husband, Henry F. Inscor, on July 5, 1972; by a brother, Fairbanks Phipps; a sister, Mettie McMillan; and great-grandsons, Michael David Musick and Kenneth Casey Musick.
Surviving are four daughters, Ina Ruth Musick and Martha Musick, both of Troutdale, Olive Jones of Dallastown, Penn., and Wilma Hall of Delta, Penn.; two sons, Henry L. Inscor and George T. Inscor, both of Darlington, Md.; two brothers, Enoch Rutherford and Woodrow Rutherford, both of Gold Hill Community; 16 grandchildren; 20 great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held tonight, Feb. 23, at 8:30 p.m. at the Harkins Funeral Home in Delta, Penn., with Dr. John E. McKnight, pastor of the Evangelical Methodist Church, and pastor Donnie Cogdill of the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church, officiating. Viewing will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. before the service. Carol Taylor Irwin, age 52, of 307 Irwin Valley Road, Sparta, NC, died Wednesday evening, September 13, 2000, in the Watauga Medical Center in Boone, NC. She is survived by her husband: Bobby Irwin of the home; one daughter: Jennifer Irwin of Sparta, NC; one son and daughter-in-law: Bryan and Tammy Irwin of Clemmons, NC; her mother: Ruth Evelyn Sanders Taylor; and two sisters: Barbara T. Higgins of Potomac, Md. and Mitzi App of Windsor, Ca. An Episcopal Memorial Service will be conducted Saturday, September 16, 2000, at 2:00 PM at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Rev. Walter Raleigh Isaacs, 86, of Wytheville, Va., died Saturday, March 17, 2001, at his residence.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the Wytheville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Barry Losey officiating. Interment will be held Tuesday, March 20, at the Bethel Baptist Church in Vilas, N.C.
He was born in Watauga, N.C., a son of the late Conley and Nora Elizabeth Tester Isaacs. He was a retired barber and a member of the Wytheville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and member of the choir. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 9. He played music with his friends.
He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Sherwood Isaacs of Wytheville, Va.; a son and daughter-in-law, Walter K. and Carla B. Isaacs of Newport News, Va.; four grandchildren, Megan, Whitney, Kelsey and Lydia; two sisters, Marlene Shull of Vilas, N.C., and Bertha Simcox of Neva, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 20, at 11 a.m. at Bethel Baptist Church in Vilas, N.C., with a brief service.

Foy Junior Isom, 77, of Independence, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Grayson County on June 11, 1923 to Foy Combs Isom and Fayme Hackler Isom.

Sadie Viola Jackson, age 87, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 1997 at Valley Health Care Center. She was a member of the Chilhowie Church of God and was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Sylvester Jackson.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Jackson Lawrence, Chilhowie; two sons, Neil Sylvester Jackson, Chilhowie, and George David Jackson, Marion; two special grandchildren that she raised, Debby Bates, Greensboro, N.C., and Timmy Jackson, Chilhowie; two sisters, Gussie Surber and Marilyn Hicks, both of Glade Spring; two brothers, Matthew Hicks, Norfolk, and Mason Hicks, Marion; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

Ewell B. Jackson 73 died at his home in the Silver Leaf Community in the Dugspur section of Carroll Co. on 13 July 1960.He was born in Carroll County to the late John C and Susan Colllier Jackson.
He is survived by his wife Mrs Larma Collier Jackson; one son Ertel Sanford Jackson Dugspur; three brothers John S Jackson and Robert L Jackson both of Laurel Fork and Noah O Jackson Pulaski; two sisters Mrs Mary Ann Thomas Laurel Fork and Mrs Caleb D Bowman Nashville Tenn. five grandchildren and four gt-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Vaughan Guyn Mcgrady Chapel Hillsville by the Rev Otte Utt, the Rev John K Boyd and the Rev Eldon Wadsworth. Interment was in the Jackson Cemetery near Laurel Fork.

Herbert Wilbur Jackson, age 72, of Saltville, died Saturday, Dec. 14, 1996 in Bristol Regional Medical Center.
Survivors include three brothers, Glenn Jackson and Ervin Jackson, both of Saltville, and Dale Jackson, Tannersville; three sisters, Roxie Davenport, Tannersville, Stella Jackson and Sylvie Woodward, both of Saltville; several nieces and nephews.

She was a member of First Christian Church, Allison Gap, a member of Christian Women's Fellowship, Saltville Senior Citizens and was the widow of Charles Edward Jackson. She was also preceded in death by one son, Charles William Jackson.
Survivors include one daughter, Eleanor Chapman, Chilhowie; one brother, Bill Montgomery, Saltville; three sisters, Kate Dunivant, Bel Air, Md., Jackie Nutter, Glade Spring, and Opal McElraft, Saltville; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

JOHN HERBERT JACKSON, JR, age 74 of Pulaski, Virginia died Sunday, November 5, 2000, in the VA Hospital in Salem, Virginia. He was born in Bramwell, West Virginia, the son of the late John Herbert, Sr., and Mary C. Umberger Jackson. He was a member of the Newbern United Methodist Church and served in the pacific Theatre with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was retired from the Radford Army Ammunition Plant and was lieutenant of security. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post # 1184 and the American Legion POst # 49. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. George "Mary Ann" Blanding, two brothers, Charles and Don Jackson and a son-in-law, Ronnie W. Edwards. He is survived by: two daughters - Lesa J. Edwards of Pulaski, VA and Deborah S. Jackson of Clemmons, NC; two sons - John H. Jackson, III, of Claytor Lake, VA and Michael W. Jackson of Dublin, VA; six grandchildren - Timothy King, Rachael King, Kyle Jackson and Michael Edwards; one great-grandchild - Alexia Creeger, a brother - Edward A. Jackson of Max Meadows, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was the son of the late Henry C. and Emma Keith Jackson and was retired from the Pulaski Furniture Company and as a guard with Oak Hall Industries. He is survived by: a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Larry Durham, of Mt. Airy, NC; two brothers and three sisters-in-law: Charlie and Juanita Jackson of Wytheville, VA; Howard and Dorothy Jackson of Kirkland, Ohio; Evelyn Jackson of Wytheville. Granddaughter, Rebecca Michele Durham. Special friends Rick and Lynn Durnell. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was a former employee of Petro and Poly Penco and was preceded in death by a sister, Vivian Elizabeth Jackson and a brother William Edmund Jackson. VESTA MORRIS JACKSON, age 89, of Wytheville, Virginia, died Wednesday, January 24, 2001, in the Evansham Manor. She was born in Wythe County, the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Lula Ward Morris. She graduated from Max Meadows High School in 1932 and was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wesley Jackson, three brothers, Wythe C. Morris, Olen Morris, Earl Morris, and three sisters, Mrs. L.R. (Nellie) Smith, Elsie Gronwoldt and Finley Nance. She is survived by: two brothers - Robert "Frank" Morris of Salem, VA and William P. Morris of Max Meadows, VA; two step-sisters - Mrs. Garland (Ruth) Manuel of Chilhowie, VA and Mrs. James (Ellen) Serber of Saltville, VA; several nieces and nephews also survive.

James Roosevelt Jackson, age 91, of Chilhowie, died Thursday, Dec. 30, 1999 at the Lewis Gale Hospital in Salem.
Mr. Jackson was a retired coal miner and was a member of the United Mine Workers Union.

Frank D. James, age 80, of Grant, died Tuesday, Nov. 12, 1996 at Twin County Regional Hospital in Galax.
He was born April 8, 1916 at Flatridge, the son of David and Virginia Missouri Slemp James. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and was a self-employed farmer and carpenter.

James Franklin Jarrett, age 68, of Atkins, formerly of Catawba County, N.C., died Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997 following a lengthy illness at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Mr. Jarrett was born in Catawba County on Aug. 18, 1929, a son of Eoline M. Leatherman Jarrett and the late Homer K. Jarrett. He was a truck driver and a restaurant owner. He was a member of Sardis Lutheran Church and a U.S. Army veteran. In addition to his father, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Donald J. Jarrett.

She was born in Sugar Grove, the daughter of the late Edward Crigger and Lillie Bonham Crigger Fulton. Mrs. Jarvis was a member of the Sharon Baptist Church in Rural Retreat where she served as a Sunday School teacher for a number of years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Colonel Bealie (C.B.) Jarvis Jr., one brother, Otis Crigger, and one daughter-in-law, Shirley Jarvis.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Bob Kell, and Pam and Henry Corvin, all of Rural Retreat; three sons and daughters-in-law, Roger Jarvis, Larry and Debbie Jarvis, and Doug and Judy Jarvis, all of Rural retreat; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Luticia and Millard Strunk of Harvard, Idaho, and Winnie and Howard Keyes of Penns Grove, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held today, March 29, at the Sharon Baptist Church with the Rev. Michael Hoyle and the Rev. Fred Jennings officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. E. Paul Jefferson, age 84, died Saturday, June 17, 2000 in Rocky Mount.
Mr. Jefferson was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Lee and Cora Lee Dillon Jefferson; his first wife, Pearl G. Jefferson; and a sister, Ernestine Brooks.
He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service and was a well-known Bluegrass musician and a banjo player extraordinaire.

She was the widow of David W. Jenkins.
She was born Sept. 9, 1938, at Comers Rock to Robert Grant and Esther Hale Sutherland.

She was a registered nurse and a life-long beef and sheep farmer.

Charles Raymond Jennings, age 82, died Thursday, Nov. 19, 1998 in Livermore, Calif.
Mr. Jennings served in the United States Navy and was an Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. He was a retired building inspector for the Oakland United School District for 10 years. He was a lifetime member of the Masons and belonged to the Royal Arch Masons of California and the Castlewood Royal Arch Chapter #54 of Castlewood,; the Cryptic Masons of California; the Free & Accepted Masons of California; the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry; the AAHMES Temple and was a 32nd degree mason.
Mr. Jennings liked to work around the house and was a devoted grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ann Jennings.
He is survived by one daughter, Bonnie Jean Jennings of Carlsbad, Calif.; one son, Charles Jennings of Lodi, Calif.; four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at Seaver-Brown Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price, the Rev. Donald Medley, and the Rev. Don Stone officiating. Fletcher Johnson of Saltville died Friday, March 16, 2001 in Smyth County Community Hospital.
Mr. Johnson was a lifelong resident of Saltville, an employee of Olin from an early age, member of the Saltville Golf Club and the owner and operator of Fletcher''s Auto Service. He was a veteran of World War II with the 44th Bomb Group that flew the Ploesti Raid.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette Helton Johnson; and his son, John F. Johnson Jr.
Surviving are one daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Frank Helton of Ozark, Ala.; two sisters, Helen Johnson of Saltville, and Dorothy Weaver of Marion; one brother, Herbert Johnson of Point Pleasant, W.Va.; two grandsons, Mark Franklin Helton of Chinook, Mont., and Adam Fletcher Helton of Ozark; two sisters-in-law, Angie Helton and Karlene Johnson, both of Saltville; 26 nieces and nephews.

He was a lifelong resident of Washington County , a wellknown farmer and was employed by Meadowview Feed Mill and the Abingdon Stockyard Exchange.
He was a member of Damascus United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Ashe County to John Leonard Hudler and Virginia !#$@erham Hudler. She was an insurance agent. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, William Floyd Johnson.

Martha Rogers Johnson, wife of Dr. Terry Johnson, died January 27th, 2001, at their home after a lengthy illness. She was born August 22, 1949 to Patsy Sheppard Rogers and Ernest Rogers. She graduated from North Forsyth High School in Winston-Salem in 1968, and from Central Piedmont Community College in 1970 with a degree in Dental Hygiene. Surviving are her two sons, Zachary T. Johnson and Samuel R. Johnson, in addition to her husband and parents. A sister, Mrs. Kevin (Robin) Spainhour of Winston-Salem, NC survives as does her brother, Robert Rogers, his wife Deborah and their son Landon of High Point, NC. Martha Practiced dental hygiene with her husband for 20 years, and was active in many community organizations including First Baptist Church of Sparta, PTO, Alleghany County Band Boosters, Boy Scout Troop 299, and the Second District Dental Society Auxiliary of North Carolina. Paul E. "Bunzie" Johnson Jr., age 27, of Mountain City, Tenn., died Sunday, Nov. 16, 1997 in Atkins.
He was a native of Watauga County, N.C., but had made his home in Johnson County, Tenn., all his life. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, W. Wynn and Nola Mae Johnson, and his maternal grandparents, Weston and Ruth Hawks.
He was a millwright worker.

Garland A. Johnson, age 78, of Jonesborough, died Monday, Nov. 22, 1999 at Johnson City Medical Center following a brief illness.
Johnson was a native of Ashe County, N.C. He was raised in White Top Mountain, VA and had been a resident of Washington County since 1951. He was a son of the late William Sherman and Lockie Ann Roop Johnson.
Mr. Johnson retired in 1982 as a medical technologist from Veterans Affairs Medical Center Hospital, Mountain Home, after 31 years of service. He was a 1950 graduate of the Franklin School of Science and Arts, Philadelphia, PA. Mr. Johnson was a World War II Navy veteran, serving in the European Theater, and retired in 1981 from the Naval Reserve as Chief Hospital Corpsman. He was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church where he served as Sunday School Superintendent as well as many other leadership roles. He was active with and was treasurer of the Prime Timers of Our Savior Lutheran Church. He was a member and past president of the North Johnson City Optimist Club. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America, and formerly served as Scout Master with Troop #139, and formerly served on the Board of Directors of the Sequoia Council. Mr. Johnson was a member of the Johnson City VFW Post #2108 and a member of the American Legion, Kings Mountain, Post #24.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane Johnson; three daughters, Debbie Johnson Mayberry, Chapin, S.C., Pamela Johnson Johnson of Jonesborough, and Beth Johnson Anderson of Johnson City; two brothers, Ray Johnson of Marion, and Edgar Johnson of Roanoke; two sisters, Ethel Pardoe and Emma Peake, both of Marion; five grandchildren, Todd and Blake Mayberry, both of Chapin, S.C., Erin and Anna Johnson, both of Jonesborough, Olivia Anderson of Johnson City; several nieces and nephews.

Clara Elizabeth Johnston, age 63, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 in Valley Health Care Center, Chilhowie.
Mrs. Johnston was a native of Joplin, Mo., and had lived in Washington County for 15 years. She was an employee of Tommy's Vending Company for 12 years and a member of the Church of God of Prophecy.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Halley and Margaret Adkins; two sons, Roger Johnston and Ronny Johnston.
Survivors include three sons, Rusty Myers Johnston of Glade Spring, Rick Johnston of Abingdon, and Jeff Johnston of Marion; two brothers, Earl Adkins of Perkins, Okla., and Kenny Adkins of Beaver, Utah; five grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted Thursday, April 8, at 2 p.m. in Farris Funeral Chapel with Pastor Geary Jonas and the Rev. Charles DeBord officiating. Burial was in Forest Hills Memory Gardens.

Ronald Bruce Johnston, age 39, of Glade Spring, died Thursday, July 23, 1998 in Johnston Memorial Hospital in Abingdon.
Mr. Johnston was a native of Quincy, Ill., and had lived most of his life in Smyth County and in Oklahoma. He had lived in Glade Spring for the past two years and was employed as a driver with United Carthage Truck Lines. He was preceded in death by one brother, Roger K. Johnston.
Survivors include his wife, Judith K. Poindexter Johnston; one daughter, Linda Marie Johnston, Saltville; one stepdaughter, Lisa Overholser, Glade Spring; one stepson, Richard Otto, St. Petersburg, Fla.; his father, Curtis H. Johnston, Enid, Okla.; his mother, Clara A. William Cargill Johnston, age 82, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999 at his home in Oakton.
Mr. Johnston received his education at Davidson College and the University of Virginia where he graduated with an MA and Ph.D. in physics. He worked at the University of Virginia The Manhatten Project; Westinghouse Research, Pittsburgh, Penn.; and George Mason University, Fairfax, where he was chairman of the physics department and dean of summer session.
He was a member of American Physical Society, Sigma Pi Sigma and Fourth Presbyterian Church in Bethesda, Md.

John William "Bill" Johnstone Jr., age 75, of Wytheville, died Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1998 in the Wythe County Community Hospital.
He was born in the Mudlick Section of Wythe County, the son of the late John William and Bessie Topham Johnstone. Mr. Johnstone was a well-known Wythe County farmer and was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Peary Hancock Johnstone; a son, John William "Billy" Johnstone III; a great-grandson, Joseph Graham Aker; and a stepson, Charles Robert Hancock.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Sarah and Abner Graham Jr., Janet and Randy Wright, and Debbie and H.A. Suthers, all of Wytheville; one son, Daniel Phillip Johnstone, Woodbridge; one stepson, William Donald Hancock, Fair Oaks, Calif.; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Frances Johnstone, Josephine "Jo" and V.P. Conley Jones Sr., age 74, of Jamestown, N.C., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 at WesleyLong Hospital.
A native of Marion, Mr. Jones was the creator of the concept of the Barn Dinner Theatre and was sole owner and operator for almost 35 years. He attended college in Concord and graduated from the University of Tennessee where he played football. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and strongly supported the VFW.

Harold Bascom Jones, age 85, of Harrisonburg, died Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Jones was born Oct. 20, 1912 in Marion to the late Lundy Olivia Hutton and Fred Jones. He was married to the late Eva Sheffield Jones. He was a member of West Side Baptist Church in Harrisonburg.
Mr. Jones was a 1963 graduate of Longwood College in Farmville receiving his B.S. in education. He spent 42 years as a high school teacher and coach. After having taught in numerous Virginia schools, he retired in 1976 from Harrisonburg High School. Prior to coming to Harrisonburg, he taught and coached in Sugar Grove, Fries, Independence, Fort Chiswell and at Randolph Henry in Charlotte County.
Mr. Jones was an artist and wood carver of distinction. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Jones Furniss Martin of Richmond.
He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ronald T. Ward of Charleston, S.C.; one son and daughter-in-law, Harold B. "Jr." and Grace D. Jones of Woodbridge; four grandchildren: Tina Michelle Ward Barham of Roanoke, Cynthia Adair Ward Brewer and Ronald T. He was born in Smyth County to the late Roy Daniel and Faye Irene Woods Jones. He was preceded in death by a brother, Roger Harold Jones, and a sister, Mildred Jones.

He was born March 5, 1923, in Carroll County to William Guy Jones and Mollie Daugherty Jones.

Conley Jones Sr., age 74, of Jamestown, N.C., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 at Wesley-Long Hospital.
A native of Marion, Mr. Jones was the creator of the concept of the Barn Dinner Theatre and was sole owner and operator for almost 35 years. He attended college in Concord and graduated from the University of Tennessee where he played football. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and strongly supported the VFW.

John Rush (J.R.) Jones, age 76, of Camp, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 in Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, Tenn.
Mr. Jones was a lifelong resident of Smyth County and retired from Brunswick after 33 years of service. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force having served in World War II and the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel Jones; one son and daughter-in-law, Johnny Jones and Melissa, Atkins; three daughters and sons-in-law, Susie Green and Danny, Seven Mile Ford, Pam Thomas and Tommy, Speedwell, and Tammy Ratliff and Allen, Max Meadows; one sister, Virginia Sult, Wytheville; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held today, June 27, at 11 a.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenny Price and the Rev. Jerry Creasy officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Springs Cemetery with military honors being rendered by the Francis Marion VFW Post 4667.

Gene Arthur Jones, age 57, of Chilhowie, died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998 at the Francis Marion Manor. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by two sisters, Eva Henderson of Rural Retreat, and Betty Ryals of Orlando, Fla.; one brother, Raymond Jones, Los Lunas, N. Mex.; a special niece, Beverly Ward, Marion; several nieces and nephews and many special friends also survive.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Hutton and the Rev. Lloyd Sheets officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the Chilhowie Rescue Squad or to the American Cancer Society.

Maude Elizabeth Jonas Jones, age 92, of Annandale, formerly of Cripple Creek, died Tuesday, March 11, 1997.
She is survived by two daughters, Delores G. Ferguson of Annandale, and Audrey Pearson of Eastern, Md.; three sons, Cloyd O. Jones Jr., Manassas, Clayton Jones of Del Ray, Fla., and Douglas E. Jones of Annandale; two sisters, Lucille Goad, and Edith Stuart, both of Fries; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery in Cripple Creek. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the Gillman Funeral Chapel.

Joseph Clyde Jones, age 49, of Chilhowie, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 1996 at his home. He was president of J.C. Jones Trucking Inc., and attended the Glade Spring Community Church of God. He was preceded in death by his father, J. Dale Jones.
He is survived by his mother, Margaret M. Jones, Chilhowie; one sister and brother-in-law, Walter R. and Linda Jones Pupa, Raleigh, N.C.; several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at the Newberry Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. E.C. Little and the Rev. Bobby Dunn officiating. Interment was in the Knoll Kreg Cemetery in Abingdon. Francis Marion VFW Post 4667 conducted graveside military honors.

George Willis Jones, age 74, died Thursday, June 8, 2000 in the Smyth County Community Hospital.
Surviving are his wife, Hazel Thomas Jones; three daughters, Helen M. Hanshew, Reba S. Flurnoy, and Ruth A. Cregger, all of Marion; two sons, Harold L. Jones, and James E. Jones, both of Marion; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held today, June 10, at 11 .am. in Bradley's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment followed in the Zion Cemetery.

James Howard Jones, age 70, died Wednesday, July 9, 1997 in the Ridgefield Retirement Center in Seven Mile Ford.
Mr. Jones was a native of West Virginia and had lived most of his life in the Smyth County area. He was employed with the Brunswick Defense Corporation and also worked on the construction of the bridges for Interstate 81 in the Smyth County area.
Mr. Jones was a veteran of the U.S. Army and the U.S. Air Force having served in World War II. He was a member of the Francis Marion VFW Post #4667.
He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include four sisters: Mary Hazel Sexton and Ruby M. Testerman, both of Marion, Carol Edwards, Lanham, Md., and Lucia Raible, Palm Bay, Calif.; one brother, William E. Jones, Seven Mile Ford; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 13, at 2 p.m. in Barnett's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mike Sage officiating. Interment will follow in the Attoway Cemetery. The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 at the Funeral Home.

Ossie Mae Wright Jones, 81, of Chilhowie, died Friday, Aug. 29, 1997 in Valley Health Care Center.
She was the widow of James G. Jones and was a member of Madam Russell United Methodist Church in Saltville.
Survivors include one sister, Gladys Greer, Saltville; several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, in Elizabeth Cemetery with the Rev. David Mumpower officiating.

ADDIE KATHLEEN LINDAMOOD JONES, age 99, of Wytheville, Virginia passed away on Friday, December 15, 2000 at the Edgemont Center in Wytheville. She was born in Wythe County, Virginia, on June 15, 1901, the youngest daughter of the late Gordon Robert Lindamood and Kate C. Lindamood. She was a member of the Cedar Hill United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband - Hugh Stuart Jones, her daughter - Rachel Ann Jones Johnson, her son-in-law - William E. Johnson, Jr., a sister - Loretta Lindamood Jones, her brothers - Gardner Cassell Lindamood, Stephen Lindamood and Lewis Walker Lindamood. She is survived by: her daughter - Addie Kathleen Jones of Wytheville, VA; a niece and husband - Loretta Lindamoor and Kenneth S. Hicks, Jr.m of Salem, VA; two nephews and wives - Bernard Madison (Jim) and Vangie Lindamood of Golden, Colorado and Douglas Miller and Bonnie Mabe Lindamood, of Blue Ridge, VA; three step-daughters - Florene J. Wade of Wytheville, VA, Ethel J. Shelton of Vienna, VA and Evelyn J. Smith of Bennetsville, SC; two step-sons - Albert L. Jones and George K. She is survived by two sons: Hobert Welch, Marion, VA and Danny Welch, Atkins, VA; four brothers: James, Ran, John A., and Harold Poston, all of Marion, VA; five sisters: Leida P. Evans, Mildred Null, Mary P. Finney, Rachael P. Bise and Alice P. Neal, all of Marion, VA; ten grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive.
