Obituary of Jackson Stuart

Taken from the 1930 Minutes of the Mountain Union Baptist Association

Submitted by Steven Roy Stuart

Brother Jackson Stuart was born June 12, 1861. Deceased November 18, 1929, Age 68 years, 5 months and 6 days. He was married to Sarah Catherine Blevins Februrary 19, 1883. To this union were born eleven children, of whom seven survive their father to mourn his loss. Four of them preceded him to that rest that remains to the people of God.

Brother Stuart professed faith in Christ about 30 years ago and was baptized into the fellowship of Land Mark Baptist church and lived a loyal member of the same for a number of years. He then moved his membership to Mount Pleasant Chapel church where he lived a concecrated member till death. Brother Stuart lived true to his profession of religion, good loyal citizen, a kind and obliging neighbor, never to busy to visit the sick, always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. He had much affliction in life, had typhoid fever four times, pneumonia three times, finally he was stricken with diabetes, which developed dropsy, which brought the end. He endured all his afflictions patiently and often said that he would love to live to see all his children saved. He lived to see them all converted but two. He leaves his dear companion, seven children, twenty-five grandchildren and a host of friends to mourn his loss. We believe our loss is his eternal gain. Let us look forward to that great reunion where there will be no sad parting but all will be bliss and joy forever.
