It was his lifelong desire to return to his native county where God called him to salvation and the ministry at the age of seventeen from a hillside corn field near Lansing, North Carolina.

Near the end of World War II he served as pastor of the First Baptist Church of West Jefferson and taught school because of the short supply of teachers at the Lansing and West Jefferson schools.

He was well known for his ability, dedication and service, all of which he used for the good of his fellowman and the glory of God.

He went to be with his Lord on January 19, 1973, having just returned from a trip to Israel which had been a lifelong dream.
