The last of a generation of good people was borne away to that shining mansion Friday, Nov 11, 1960 -- Artie Verna Rector Jennings, age 76. She was the daughter of Isom and Edna Davis Rector; was married at an early age to Alex Jennings, who preceded her in death only a few months ago. To them were born three daughters, all of whom survive -- Mrs. Alta Smith, Galax, Virginia, Mrs. Golda Cockerham, Bear, Delaware, Mrs. Vida Lowe, Bel Air, Maryland. Thirteen grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grand children also survive. She and her husband joined the church at Crab Creek in 1925. Both lived quite patient, loving Christian lives. She missed only the last service, prior to her death. Was able to go to the Association in September. (a line is cut off)
to the host of friends who knew and loved her. Her lovely smile and cheerful attitude even in times of heavy burdens and heart breaking trials, reflect this little thought.
The thing that goes the farthest,
Towards making life worthwhile
That costs the least and does the most,
Is just a little smile.
The smile that bubbles from the heart
That loves its fellow men
Will drive away the cloud of Gloom
And coax the sun again;
It's full of worth and goodness, too,
With many a blessing blent,
It's worth a million dollars,
And doesn't cost a cent.
She made her home with her daughter, Alta, after the death of her husband. She will be missed so very much but the love and the radiance of her life will cast its reflections on her children and grandchildren and all who knew her.
The angels are rejoicing at her coming to othe heavenly home. There to join her loved ones who have been watching and waiting for her. Her beautiful acts of mercy and help to the sick and afflicted on this earth could not be written or spoken but the halo of memory surrounds us all. Her well written epitaph should be a treasure of hope for all of the loved ones.
Somewhere back of the sunset,
Where the loveliness never dies
She lives in the land of glory
With the blue and gold of the skys.
She had a smile for everyone,
A heart as pure as gold
To those who knew and loved her
Her memory will never grow old.
